*OFFICIAL THREAD: Nokia N97

Uhh, Mail, iPod, and Phone run in the background by default. The only other thing running in that screen is Safari (basically the same thing as taking a screenshot of Safari), so that image is quite a joke, not impressive. Though backgrounder does seem to eat up RAM by itself (my 3G has about 41-47MB free at the homescreen without it, but 31-38MB with it installed).

But yes, the 3G will be a MONSTER when jailbroken with backgrounder assuming the rest of its RAM surplus over the 3G isn't stuffed with anything.

Still sucks. Now anything and everything is under apps and it takes FOREVER for the list to refresh. Granted it is better organized but the performance is pretty horrible.

This cheap chinese phone made me think that they (Nokia) could have went clam shell landscape (to address some of your concerns about the connector) and 2 screens instead with a resultant bigger keyboard as some of you have expressed.

Maybe they could do it in the future when screen tech gets thinner. Just a thought.

I just saw a Nokia patent app for a touch screen with a one row keyboard.

Go to www.uspto.gov using Internet explorer and the free tiff viewer called alternatiff (it will prompt you on the site to download the tiff viewer if you don't have it).

Here is the very long link to search for Nokia assignee patents

http://appft.uspto.gov/netacgi/nph-...Nokia&FIELD1=AS&co1=AND&TERM2=&FIELD2=&d=PG01

Click on patent application 20090137280. it is the second one.

Then click on images at the top of the screen once you are in the patent application.
If you see a quicktime symbol and then nothing happens that means you need to download the alternatiff viewer.

I haven't been able to view uspto tiffs in any add on yet for firefox.

Also i see number 20090135749 is a patent for maintaining multiple network connections

Number 20090129623 is some sort of weird mini subwoofer cell phone patent

Number 20090111531 is for a wireless energy transfer to a cell phone

Number 20090111448 is weird. Transmitting widgets to TV's etc..

Number 20090111287 is for a magnetic connectors usb, power etc..

Number 20090109243 is a patent to avoid having missing text on the sides when you zoom in.

Number 20090073137 looks like a T9 for handwriting

Number 20090054116 is ultrasound scent dispensing (girly phone maybe)

Number 20090049392 customizing friend avatars on maps apps.

Number 20090044153 some kind of pencil shaped bluetooth earpiece that doubles as a stylus with other features (don't have time to read it).

Number 20090031258 looks like some kind of gesture communication to contacts using (I'm guessing) your phones camera (don't have time to read it)
Number 20090031237 looks like a screenplay patent.

Holy crap Nokia has a lot of patent applications 4896!

Its going to take more than numbers to sway me from buying the N97. Sure its an underdog on paper, but the damn thing isn't even out yet.

Until I see negative reviews, this thing is mine. I would be lying if i am not a bit disappointed on the news, but Im not going to sit here and moan about it.

Well if they could force the carriers to subsidize their phones while leaving them as is, I'm sure they would. Look how hard it is just to get AT&T to play ball

Nokia's already busting new handsets out the door at an alarming pace by the end of this year, so even hope for the N97's short-term future is pretty dim. They're a huge company, so maybe, but there's no real telling.

Yes, Nokia does have to follow suit. Will they?

Also, I've read that recent HTC products will get official support for the 6.5 upgrade, for what that's worth.

I hear ya, but as Blaxx said its going for about 750.00 when 1st released by nokia and probably lower a bit after, where is the iphone without commitment yet still locked is 699.00 for a 16 gb and 599.00 for a 8gb now thats just nuts, plus the 30.00 plan
:buddies:

Well... Hopefully Nokia is aware this is the case for most of the people... But yet again, my hopes and dreams are very high...lol

Don't worry, I'll be one of the stupid ones lining up to get this phone at release, lol, i've been waiting far too long to wait yet again but now for the price to drop.

Well if the FCC doesn't require a high res pic and with the way these blogs scour the FCC approvals (EngadgetMobile's FCC Fridays anyone?), I wouldn't want to use a good camera either.

does this sound like the ivalo to anyone else?

Follow-on to IP08. 3.5-inch wide touchscreen, 32GB ROM, AGPS, FM transmitter and receiver, 5MP camera, WiFi, TV-out, Bluetooth
