This cheap chinese phone made me think that they (Nokia) could have went clam shell landscape (to address some of your concerns about the connector) and 2 screens instead with a resultant bigger keyboard as some of you have expressed.

Maybe they could do it in the future when screen tech gets thinner. Just a thought.
I just saw a Nokia patent app for a touch screen with a one row keyboard.
Go to
www.uspto.gov using Internet explorer and the free tiff viewer called alternatiff (it will prompt you on the site to download the tiff viewer if you don't have it).
Here is the very long link to search for Nokia assignee patents
http://appft.uspto.gov/netacgi/nph-...Nokia&FIELD1=AS&co1=AND&TERM2=&FIELD2=&d=PG01
Click on patent application 20090137280. it is the second one.
Then click on images at the top of the screen once you are in the patent application.
If you see a quicktime symbol and then nothing happens that means you need to download the alternatiff viewer.
I haven't been able to view uspto tiffs in any add on yet for firefox.
Also i see number 20090135749 is a patent for maintaining multiple network connections
Number 20090129623 is some sort of weird mini subwoofer cell phone patent
Number 20090111531 is for a wireless energy transfer to a cell phone
Number 20090111448 is weird. Transmitting widgets to TV's etc..
Number 20090111287 is for a magnetic connectors usb, power etc..
Number 20090109243 is a patent to avoid having missing text on the sides when you zoom in.
Number 20090073137 looks like a T9 for handwriting
Number 20090054116 is ultrasound scent dispensing (girly phone maybe)
Number 20090049392 customizing friend avatars on maps apps.
Number 20090044153 some kind of pencil shaped bluetooth earpiece that doubles as a stylus with other features (don't have time to read it).
Number 20090031258 looks like some kind of gesture communication to contacts using (I'm guessing) your phones camera (don't have time to read it)
Number 20090031237 looks like a screenplay patent.
Holy crap Nokia has a lot of patent applications 4896!
