*OFFICIAL THREAD: Nokia N97

Well for starters, if you remove your MicroSD card, you won't be able to access your apps (they won't even appear in the menus until you put the card back in). If you have a slow card, you'll end up having slow apps (if you have a Class 2 card, it will take longer to access the data on it as opposed to a Class 6 card for instance). I used to use Phone memory for all my apps on my E71 but seeing how there is so little Phone memory on the N97 and some apps use it for virtual memory, I installed everything on the Mass memory.

It's no just number, it's performance for the tech geeks. I'm sure the phone will work great with the software that Nokia makes, but you have to look at the bigger picture of 3rd party developers as well.

The N95 was great not because of it great spec at the time of it's release, but more of the great software developers "eventually" made for it. A powerful processor allowed developers to create great software than run smoothly; and at the same time it forgives crappy developers to create poor program but "still" run smoothly.

If the N97 was to have a powerful processor, it may be possible to port a version of linux/window to the device and have it run smoothly like a "real computer." [currently the detail on the processor just put this hope to an end].

LOL this reminds me of when I first got an S60 phone. It was months before I learned you could switch between open apps by holding down the menu key. Not that it mattered much, you could run 2 apps max on the E62 before it crashed.

No reason it shouldn't. Garmin MobileXT was updated not too long ago with support for 5th Edition devices (and no, not 5th Edition devices with that on-screen D-pad application installed).

I have all the files (files one's not supposed to have, mind you) on my desktop waiting for my i8910.

Sorry the N97 accesses contacts as fast as the 5800XM. That blows. :(

There is a S60 User Meeting at the NYC Nokia Flagship store this Wednesday at 6:30pm; you should try to join and give the proto N97 device a try.

I'm dying to do that. Saw the phone a month ago at the Nokia Flagship store but the staff there won't let me touch it.

I remember watching the live announcements when they announced the N96 and N78...they showed a picture of the N78 and people were like :hurl:

Glad they passed that design phase. It worked for the N81 and N85 but I don't know how they managed to make the other phones so ugly.

Noise certainly isn't minimal to me, I notice it a lot (photography hobbyist), but it could always be because the lens on my N95 is scratched to hell and my N85 is brand new and has a cover LOL. Not that I'd ever use a phone for anything in a portfolio or something I'd frame but the latest Nseries phones have replaced my point and shoot cameras

I don't understand what you're saying. But if you customize your apps in the menu and put them in the first 12 spots, then one press of the menu button brings up 12 one click app shortcuts. This has nothing to do with the browser or scrolling.

It will be easy because this is second touch screen device and unlike 5800 it needs virtual keyboard.Nobody developed keyboard for 5800 because no body demanded.

Apps are still growing for this platform.Developers are taking interest in symbian 5th Edition and it's a boost due to N97's lunch. It's not gonna be Apple app store, but when I had Nokia 5800, it was full of apps, around 30 apps and all amazing, lets see what happens. N97 has T9 so at least it's possible to text with one hand.
