*OFFICIAL THREAD: Nokia N97

Well we have to keep in mind that the 5800 XpressMusic is the first S60 touch device so there are bound to be bugs. Additionally, since it's a mid-tier device, it probably doesn't have the lofty hardware specs of the N97. At least this is how I explain how the N97 is so responsive and the 5800 XM is a bit sluggish. It's just the evolution of the OS. When something else comes out after the N97, it will probably crap all over it too. If you need an analogy, it's like how Metal Gear Solid 4 looks leaps and bounds better than anything else on PS3 because its the evolution of developing for that console, developers know the hardware a bit better and can harness it better. Same thing with this go round with S60 touch, Nokia's engineers know it a lil better, know what worked well in the 5800 XM and what didn't and are able to tweak. We've yet to see the full potential, this is just the beginning.

I do however agree that besides the iPhone, everyone is just slapping touchscreens onto phones that are not equipped with an OS/UI meant to accomodate it.
 
I find thier ratings some times a bit skew'd I guess. They seem to like WM devices though a lot though. They liked the HTC XV6 it appeared more than the N97. I almost stabbed myself for agreeing with you though :-)....Can't wait to see the phone that gets the Christian Dior 8 or 9. That phone will apparently be the monolith moment like in Space Oydssey of our times.
 
Apple's polish and marketing are what revolutionized the mobile industry. Technically, the iPhone (original) didn't revolutionize jack. Remember, they weren't even going to allow 3rd party apps and wanted everyone to client side scripting, etc? Without the app store, it wouldn't be anything more significant than the iPod touch. Significant to a certain demographic, sure... but raw capability not even close.

They've only caught up with most of the other standard features of the smartphone from 2004 with their third try (3.0 software and the 3GS hardware) and still aren't quite there yet. But their marketing machine is second to none, have to hand that to them.
 
I'm pretty sure this will be my next phone. However, reading the reuters article that was posted a few pages back, the VP of Nokia devices stated that the N97 is merely just the beginning of the new wave of N series devices. If this is just the beginning, I'd really like to see what nokia has planned for Q3 09 and on.

The N97 wasn't my first choice in the 1st place when I first saw both phones..
 
I think you're forgetting that the upgrade price from the 5800 to the N97 is a $500 difference, or $300 for the lucky ones.

The worst part is that your 2-year old N95 will still play games better than the brand new N97.
