*OFFICIAL THREAD: Nokia N97

Well, I thought the exact same as he did. Because for nearly 2 years after the iPhone the 5800 was just crap. I mean it would have been okay 3 years ago.

It seems they went with 2 simultaneous development paths here. The 5800 was probably what a S60 touch phone would have been like if they made that S90/S60 convergence device.

This phone seems to be on a completely different development path.

Well anyway, looks like we have 3 contenders this season!!!

Wow, so much heated talk here..

I'm just wondering if anybody here used the Nokia Internet Tablets before (770, N800 or N810)? If you used it, do you think it would make a great touch phone if they just add cellphone capabilities to it?

The iphone, Pre and N97 should not be compared to each other as much as we are tempted to. Each is like the way Nokia says it's a "different solution" with a different target audience.

I don't know why people keep picking on the N96 but I liked it for the short time I had it during my trip to Miami. The N96 is target audience is for mobile TV folks and it's a great mobile TV. I watch shows on it for 4 hours plus before the battery dies and took pictures of my vacation with it when I was there.

Unlike Palm; Nokia have a crap load of phones release each year, literally a bunch of crap phones to E and N series phones. For the Palm they're putting their whole basket of eggs on the Pre. Nokia is put one egg here and there. Same goes for Apple, they're putting the whole basket on the iphone, they have nothing else. This doesn't give nokia the excuse to make crappy phones, but just to help folks understanding where they're coming from.

If you hate Nokia or their phone don't meet your needs, go buy another brand phone. If you like Nokia and want to give constructive feedback go to an Nokia event; meet their folks and give them feedback there.

Don't blame you at all! My N95-1 was over $1000! I just had to get it first week.. (had a razr, and a BB Pearl).. so yeah.. it was necessary

1. I did not get a chance to browse the internet on the device, Maybe someone who was with me last night @ the S60 Meet Up that tried the internet browsing can answer that for you.

2. Yes it almost perform like a capacitive screen, despite it being resistive. Plus its a glass screen like the one on the iPhone.

3. It will blow away the 5800XM in terms of performance..

You have to copy/paste through the menu. ie. Options -> Editing options -> Copy/Paste (I haven't discovered a keyboard shortcut for this if one exists).

You input a comma by pressing Shift + "Period" key

Congrats! I was supposed to get my phone before my boy, but got them in reverse order by about a week. Both are functioning great, though the phone doesn't keep me up at night sometimes. Filmed TWO unboxings in June. :hehehe: :clapping:

LOL. I'm on the phone with Nokia trying to get my pre-order changed. I'll keep you guys posted.

UPDATE: EPIC FAIL LOL. It was worth a try, I had a good laugh on the phone with the rep from Nokia tho.

It'll be buggy when it comes out. You shouldn't even be questioning if it will or not. Considering it takes them a few months to a year after the device is out to get the ideal firmware out.

Very strange stuff indeed...could be that these kinda shenanigans go on frequently but it's just we're paying more attention to the behind the scenes stuff cuz we're so antsy
