*OFFICIAL THREAD: Nokia N97

I agree. Lets not kid ourselves, this is gonna be one expensive toy, and in todays economic settings, if you dont need all those features then you have options.

You've almost perfectly mirrored my experience messing around with one at the Chicago flagship store, except yours seems to have been a bit better than the beta firmware mine was running.

Everybody on this post is a potential buyer. With the specs out people are finally able to value the device - and it's definitely not worth $1000 per spec.

If the specs were as we dreamed with super CPU and big RAM people might dish out $1000 on release to buy it. Nobody wants to buy a device and be outdated in a few weeks or months.

With that said, the N97 had already lost the spec war before it's even release; which makes it hard to justify a high price.

When the N95 was released it was the best device for 2 whole years. The N95 of course was updated to the N95-8GB but everybody know it's the same deal. And everybody knows for 2 good years that they had the best in their hand no question or doubt.

Heck the N95 was an ugly phone, but I still brought it and own it proudly for almost 2 years (N95-1 to N95-3 to N95-4). Every other Nokia phone I had since then never lasted more than 3 months.

I have a E90 and IMO is almost as good as the N97. I only paid $300 for a used E90; so with that, my budget for this phone is at $600. Paying anything more makes me feel dumb.

If nokia had put in something crazy like a snapdragon chip and charged $1500
for it; I'll probably buy it; and you know what? it'll probably retain its value over time and be worth something a year later.

Let's pray that MS Cashback is up at 30% for eBay when the N97 is released. So if the phone cost $900 we can get it for near $600; that'll be nice.

Dude how much do you eat a day?! I'm guessing you order as much Pizza as I do ... I'm not much of a cook the past 2yrs. My kids love pizza pizza too much each weekend and my two Chihuahua's ...well they KNOW the word Pizza without mistake and if the phone does the special ring for downstairs ... they get all giddy and do a happy dance; the puppy almost pees he's so happy to hear the pizza ring lol. I figure if I cut off pizza for a month I'd have $300/350 ($50 per order incl tip, 1 pizza/wk 2/3wks ordering 2pizzas). Yes i'm sick of Pizza.

BTW, saw that video last week - very impressive. Seeing how fast the IDou is on youtube using OMAP 3430; I can guess this cpu would have NO LAG on Symbian-Foundation OS or 5th Edition; 3rd Ed FP2 (you couldnt enter keystrokes faster than response).;

@Blaxx; that resolution is just fine ... but I'd like 800x480 for this size screen ... it would POP!

Maybe the very first store would charge that to ship ... just wait 1-3wks when other get it in and you'll see it drop to about $750-800CAN. Wait another 35days when iPhone 3.0HW drops and that mad craze happens shave another 100 off that - thats what I'm guessing at.

Lets not hope this phone is a grand. This phone is going to be good, I admit, but I'm not paying 1k for it.

If that happens, I'm probably going to side with the new Iphone (if it comes out).

And this is exactly what I have been doing.....PASS on the first version. Let the "early adopters" review it then sell theirs cheap. The issue is personal responsibility and patience. Wait at least 6 months after the phone you think you want gets released then if it still measures up to what you want and what is out there, buy it cheap new and even cheaper lightly used.

I passed on the N95-1 and bought the N95-4 awhile after the initial release of the N95 series and had a 3 to use for a short while. I have not been disappointed, waiting saved me $300 AND I got the better product..

Who forgot the initial release of the iPhone and the "upgraded" iPhone just 6 months later for less money?

Instead of complaing and "threatening" the purchase of Nolia products (which people said they would do in the case of the N95 as well) why not take personal; responsibility and simply wait for EXACTLY what you want.....256 RAM? Capacitive screen, waiting until the Nokia looks and acts exactly like an iPhone!!!! LOL..

its all about patience..If EVERYONE simply said NO to NOkia , They would listen to their customers and build the "yes" phone the FIRST time around.

She sounds like my partner. He barely even takes pictures, whereas I spend days on end agonizing about the merits of a dual LED flash vs. xenon flash, complete with an analysis of my picture/video-taking habits.

Sometimes I feel like a dude trapped in a woman's body. Except, you know, for the whole liking dangly bits thing.

We've gotten waaaay rabroad here. I guess we're just a couple weeks away from all the reviews on the N97 rolling in. The review of the OmniaHD just went up on PhoneArena. If only it had a keyboard *SMH*

Funny thing about PhoneArena is that even the most fashionable phones never get a high "Christian Dior" rating from them in their Phone Appeal portion of their review. N97 gets a 1 out of 10? OmniaHD gets a 2? WTF? I'm not as excited for the OmniaHD as I am for the N97 but let's be honest, it's as sexy as an inanimate object can get

I never had the problems you speak of with a Sony Ericsson but the only SE phone I used for more than a couple days was the w300i and I loved it for the Walkman but hated the keypad and I still can't get with the UI that SE uses. I do hear a lot of people complain about build quality with Sony Ericsson phones though (I haven't met anyone with a w580i where all the keys weren't cracked)

i agree with you-just another toy to pass the time with.

Other than the nice design it's just another WM phone.

But when you work in the AT&T store and all you get to look at are Blackjacks, Tilts, Fuze's, and assorted LG, Samsung, and Moto dumbphones you get excited over anything. I can understand them getting excited.

Even at $600, that's a really nice launch price (maybe not for what the phone is today, but compared to other launches). I remember paying $800+ for the original N95 when it first came out, and over $600 for the N95-3, N95-4, and even the N80, and that was after they had been out for a few months.

Nokia's still prevalent obstacle is winning people over from phones that can be had for under $300 with a contract. Usually anything over $400 that can fit in your pocket scares new customers away pretty easily.
