*OFFICIAL THREAD: Nokia N97

Don't get hung up on specifics. The focus is the idea of "what the original should have been" as it was the case with the N95. The N95 had the same amount of RAM as any of its previous deficient devices, making it almost impossible to keep the web browser open alone, much less switch to something else.

Let's try this instead. What if you gets yours, agree that the keyboard is a pain to use, and Nokia releases the N97-2 with a xenon flash, reworked keyboard that works MUCH better, and 256mb of RAM. Again, would it be worth another several hundred of your dollars?

That's not what I meant at all. I simply meant that often the layout is the way it is for a reason, which makes the text more impactful.

I am all for designers using CSS to make mobile browsing a reasonable experience. But clearly not everyone feels like me, as referenced by the extremely negative reaction to WAP sites earlier in this thread.

What I'm really annoyed with is the (few) people who are asking the N97-hopers to justify why they are excited about the phone, the fact that it has become a 5800-sucks and Nokia-sucks thread, etc. If you don't like the 5800 then say so, on the "I hate 5800" thread. If you don't like Nokia, say that too (maybe on a non-Nokia forum). Don't harsh our mellow because we are EXCITED about this phone! :clapping:

Oh, and about the widgets: You can't honestly expect Nokia to write every single widget that every single person wants. If you wanted your mobile phone provider to provide every app, you should get a dumbphone. A lot of what makes smartphones awesome is that you can customize, install third-party apps, etc. I can just about guarantee someone will write a widget (or suite of widgets) to exactly replicate the standby screen if that's what you want. If your needs are SO specialized, then maybe you should learn how to write widgets yourself or go find a phone that fulfills your specialized needs, and stop pissing on our Cheerios! :goodness:

Thanks, its good to see an explanation but the average potential new user will not know what the hell is going on and determine the screen is crap.

Dont nokia have a useability group besides geek engineers?

That doesn't look like a price increase. It looks like Amazon just ran out of their own stock and is now pushing MCO's inventory at their price.

Anybody pre-ordered?

I made my pre-order for the white N97 at nokiausa.com.

Priced at $699 + $90 headset is not a bad deal. My price range is around $600 for this phone and it hits around there in total "value."

Since I live 2 minutes away from the NYC Nokia Flagship Store I can always go there and return it if I find better deals. :buddies:

It is weird that it wasn't a mass shipping..I believe that 100% of preorders will ship by the end of the month..but the distribution may be heavily weighted to the last week of June..

I read a while back that it was supposed to be able to accommodate 2 screens of widgets but that might have been someone's misinterpretation of swiping to the blank screen

they are located in hong kong. takes about 2 weeks to ship the item.

they did not affect the screen in any way. the application process is quite easy but make sure you try to do it a dust free environment. you peel off the backing and apply and use something flat to smooth it out and then take off the front backing and you're done.

you can reapply if you mess up and make sure you have some scotch tape to help get rid of any dust particles.
