*OFFICIAL THREAD: Nokia N97

Don't ever compare this to the Touch Pro again. Have you ever used a Touch Pro? It's terrible. Worst QWERTY keyboard I've ever used on a device. They somehow managed to make the keys feel more cramped than even the E71 and they are almost twice the size. Plus it's the same size as the Touch Diamond but twice as thick which makes it look and feel awkward. HTC Touch FAIL. Touch Pro2 doesn't do it for me for some reason, I find it really ugly.

Now, I always liked Nokia brand but come on! Why still this Euro version and American version BS!!!!!

Can't they just like other companies to put a tri-band or quad-band 3G and get it over with?!!?! :befuddled

I don't want to get the American version and couldn't use 3G when I travel to Europe and Asia.

It is almost 2009 and there is no excuses for them to do this!

I think instead of using a modified s60 for their touch phone, Nokia should have designed a brand new touch UI. Although I'll hold my final thought til I see a production unit.

YOU try talking about something the OmniaHD does better than the N97 in this thread. See what happens.

It would make much more sense for me to compare it to the Touch Pro, Touch Pro2, G1, E90, or any other device with a hardware QWERTY, but I've already done that several pages ago now. If you don't want to look for it, I was at the Nokia Chicago store last week with the E90, E71, E75, and early N97 all on display (and I brought my N810 with me). All of them had their own varying degrees of comfort, except the N97. For me, it was borderline unusable.

By your own words, if a phone makes/receives phone calls and sends/receives text messages, you will be happy. For some of us, that's not enough and we feel a little bit afraid that the N97 may not be on par with the rest of the offerings out there.

Never. They never will. But I don't care. The marketshare is enough to have double the apps the Nokia store is launching with. Yes i know there are 5 fart apps in there. But the point is the device and the platform are now sustainable.

S60/Symbian is also, but I think for the next few years the focus will be on lower-end devices and as a company they will survive. Good volumes.

Cool, the N97 is dropping in price.

Looking forward to mine... I'm getting fed up with the full screen qwerty of the 5800. One of the things I'm looking forward to is being able to see the text entered directly into the textbox in real time, not looking at some text input screen. It bugs me a lot that I'm in the middle of typing a response and it goes something like this:

friend: hey wanna go out this weekend?
me: *starts typing a response, only sees text entry screen*

meanwhile...

friend: ah nvm, I have work
me: sure lets go to the beach, i haven't been there in a while. which beach do you want to go to? (this takes a bit of time to type out btw, lol)
me: ah ... ok then.

damn. thats a rough existence. couldn't you just have someone in the states send you one via post and just have them declare it a low value so you dont get pillaged by customs?

so please forgive my ignorance, but how do apps work on nokia phones? I saw the facebook app on the video of the n97, are all the apps free? is it basically similar to iPhone apps? I'd like to have my netflix and a few other things on the n97 like on the iPhone, just don't know if it is possible or not.
Thanks!

No one has a shipping notice yet? Dont mean to rub it in at all but I cant believe mine was shipped already and I was probably on the fence about this phone more then anyone in this thread. Nokiausa just baffles me.
