Carl Zeiss is probably spinning right now but his descendants probably don't care since they're caking off of every N97 sold. S60v5 probably does need work (I still haven't used a 5800XM) but I imagine they're making strides with it just like they are with S60v3.2. I wish people would stop asking where the non-touch 5th Edition devices are tho (the guys on AllAboutSymbian make a point of asking like every week). Non-touch 5th Edition is called 3rd Edition Feature Pack 2.
 
I'm probably going to grab iPhone 3.0 before N97 (since obviously that'll be available on time) and by then N97 will have all it's bugs ironed out and SN wont be charging a kidney for it :)
 
It's also good to remind that some Asian languages (like Korean and Japanese, for instance) can be written perfectly well with keyboards, since they use alphabets and not ideograms like Chinese.
The fastest texting I've seen was a Korean teenager on a "nine-key" keypad.
 
Seeing as how the app development for the iPhone has eclipsed Nokia in a very short amount of time, no, I don't think it's moot at all. Faster, smoother apps are being developed for the iPhone because that's what its hardware can do.

If an Nseries device existed that could match the iPhones gaming capabilities, Ngage would be noticeably more successful and everyone here would use it.
 
Nonono, that's not what they're doing; that's what they did. The natural evolution of the N95, the N96, went from the dual 332mhz processor+hardware acceleration to a single ARM9 264mhz processor with NO hardware acceleration and Nokia claimed it will run longer and better because of FP2. Read any review of that device, including my own; it was slow as f-, and you can forget gaming. The 5800XM, while a success in its own right as their first touch screen device, suffers the same slowness issue with the same processor that's in the N97. I'm optimistic now that at the very least, the device won't be cursed like the N96 and be rendered unusable by this with the faster clock speed. However, if you think an additional 65mhz is going to be sufficient for gaming or any other intensive functions, much less perform comparably to the rest of the devices with upgraded hardware, you're simply incorrect.

All that they've put together with the N97 is impressive and I admit, we haven't seen all of it in a device before, but so was the case with the N96 with its upgrades, and it failed miserably. I think the N97 will do exceptionally better, but the lesson from the N96 is not to be forgotten from Nokia just because a year has passed.
 
Oh, I'm in no danger of buying an iPhone :lol:. Despite the hardware differences, I'd still prefer an N97 for my uses. Their gaming may be peanuts to "real" gaming (PSP/DSi in your example), which is also inferior to console gaming, which is also arguably inferior to PC gaming, if you want to stretch it out that far. Standalone point and shoots and DSLR's also take much better pictures than any S60 device, but that doesn't mean Nokia doesn't put out some of the best-in-class cameras on their phones.

The point is that the iPhone still has the best gaming platform for a mobile phone, period, and you'd be crazy to not at least acknowledge that. Sure there's a standalone device that can perform better, but I'm comparing the features to other devices in the same class.
 
I'll take the original even though it is BS hype as usual. (anyone remember "open to all possibilities"). Still much better than writing out what makes the thing "go" like some cheap import 80s import car (DOHC 16v Twin Cam - who gives a ****).

I cannot live without 3g and 3.5g that the N series has.
I will take that and class 32 over class 10 or 12 or whatever it is these other phones have with their big *** touch screens that will be 30% taken up by controls and keyboards anyways or whatever else they try to out spec Nokia at or get all fancy with their awesome email handling UI .

I would rather have "jack of all trades master of nothing" with 3G and 3.5g so I can actually download stuff ON DEMAND than "OMG it is so easy to use this UI."

I am always using the internet and so I need download speed not upload speed.
When i am coming home on the train, flying by cell phone towers i need download speed!
If I am watching daily show or Colbert report or I am watching some video from youtube or I am looking at some website I need 3g and 3.5g download speed not some phone with a couple of good things that are out specing my N series but it still can't f'n download vids and websites on demand.

You know Nokia is just going to take advantage of all this competition.
They will just sit back and watch the other manufacturers implement some specific features of the new Symbian Foundations OS with better hardware and then they'll compete with it a little bit (match it or almost match it) in their next n-series and they will still make their next phone "jack of all trades master of nothing" with awesome form factor and we will be filling up howardforums with 300 page threads of complaints of how we wished some specific feature of the phone was as good as some other manufacturers hardware.

The N97 is going to get hacked all to s**t anyways so stop worrying about the current S60 thing of the past OS.

I'm going to try to get a phone repair and upgrade retailer to come on here to howardforums and offer a Ram upgrade for the N97 for all of us like this one.

Well, my time on RDA has just expired so thought i'd share a few observations:

*As I said before, OVI Store is up and running, and allows logging in with your existing Nokia account
*Ngage is available (v1.2). Never really got into Ngage on any of my previous Nokia's so can't really say how it differs
*Nokia Messaging (v10.0) isn't pre installed but is available from the software update app
*49.8MB of RAM available from a fresh start
*Call log still only shows the mobile icon (i've never found it to be a problem but I know some of you treally don't like that)
*At one point I had N-Gage running a game, the Internet running, and Maps, and was able to flick back and forth without issues or any sign of out of memory errors
*The option to "show on map" is available when highlighting a geo tagged photo in the gallery (something thats missing on the 5800)

Thats all I can think of off the top of my head, but i'll update if anything else comes back to me :)
 
What's the website address to download the GRAVITY TWITTER APP.? Also, do we need to download anything "before" we download the Gravity Twitter app.? If so, what do we need to download and from which website address do we do it from? Please tell us.

I ordered white and love the way it looks. Everything I hoped the white iPhone would be (instead of just a white back shell), but the black is really growing on me, especially from Lester's preview.
 
How much worse than using the "0" button in T9 do you think it is? It's better than reaching my thumb all the over to the middle of the keyboard. I think if you actually thought about it or used it, it would make sense. Think about where your hands are when holding the phone and the arc of motion your thumb makes relative to the keyboard.
 
I missed that. In all honesty, I hardly remember what it was like when the 1st gen iPhone launched except for all the posts on Engadget pointing out when people in movies and TV shows were holding it upside down :lol:
 
Edwards used to work for Nokia, and their relationship ended in a big, ugly dispute.
That is why all the animosity. He does have some knowledge of what is going on behind the scene in the mobile industry.
