*OFFICIAL THREAD: Nokia N97

the nokia messaging for s60v5 is pretty good IMO. on the 5800 its one of the better apps because the layout is good, and they implemented the long press, so if i press and hold on a message or anywhere, a menu pops up. and it seems to fetch my mail properly on top of that, so its good to me.

thanks gwapz, that certainly is encouraging.
i havent been too disappointed with nokia 5800, especially with theme effects off, so i am sure i will be pleased with the n97

Pardon the Google Translate engrish, but Eldar addressed that:

"Differences in quality with the same Nokia N82, you just do not notice for most situations. In the current version of software does not work Autofocus, often out of focus images are obtained. In subsequent versions promise to rectify this shortcoming. And the sameness of modules to Nokia N85 gives hope to do so."

All very good points and the 3G point is something neither of us will be able to concede. Where I live and travel, UMTS 1900 is plenty and where you live it is not (or yet to be proven acceptable).

I do admit that I would very much like a hardware keyboard (even if it's only 3 lines). My first choice after the 5800XM was the N97, but that was until the OmniaHD was announced. I'm still a T9 guy though, so using the virtual T9 with a capacitive screen and tactile feedback is going to be incredible. These are just locational and preferential.

The web browser differences may or may not work out the way you're expecting though. Safari on the iPhone works so well because of the capacitive screen and because it keeps everything else closed while you're browsing (and still crashes on occasion). Given that the S60 browser (even in 5th Edition) still lags consistently doesn't give me much hope that the N97, with MORE running in the background, kinetic scrolling added, and with the same limited amount of RAM is going to be enough to have as smooth an experience as Safari.

Assuming you had at&t 3G, RM-505 is for sure the NAM version of the phone?

And yeah looks like we were right about the glass being a lie. Does the screen feel like cheap plastic or is it a nice, smooth material?

why even have that drag to unlock? just to copy the iphone.

i really like the (un)lock slider on the 5800. i know the n97 also has one. does this mean it's a 2 step process to get to the home screen? use the slider and then drag?

Agreed. There's time before the release for more news about models sporting the 850 MHz band. Maybe a true NAM version with 850/900/1900 MHz. In it's current form it's close enough to perfect for me, but I would wait if they announced an 850 MHz-inclusive version. I just wouldn't wait TOO long! :hehehe:

all of you all are lucky
9% tax ? thats baby tax
in Barbados if i was to have a phone shipped here i would have to pay 40% tax on it.
needless to say i have never shipped a phone here.
My options are left at waiting til someone i know travels to the states and them smuggling back the phone by pretending its their personal phone or something.
although that hasnt stopped me along my 7 smartphones trail since the treo 600

LOL I love your posts-I'm trying to surmise your age..what you do, etc in order to be so fixated on the arrival of a freakin phone! It's gonna be very cool once it arrives, but 2 days, 2 weeks..a month..whats the rush?
