*OFFICIAL THREAD: Nokia N97

apparently not everybody will get the "Lipstick"...

and seriously there is actually NO stylus for the N97 appart from that external "Lipstick" one...

i guess if that thing only vibrates, then we will have N97 being peddled at adult shops! :p :hehehe:

Ok, I'll admit that I'm a fan of the hardware config of the N97. For a guy who has been waiting for *exactly* this from *someone that doesn't do WinMobile* I'm happy.

But the iPhone 3GS - which is now official - makes it a bit harder to swallow. $300 is the most likely subsizied price. And unless Nokia is pulling off some pricing shenageans, the N97 is $200-300 more. *Playing the ignorant customer game* the iPhone is a better value. And that just sucks.

That being said... I wonder if someone can convince Nokia to push WRT just a bit harder. They'd have something there (if the S60 Browser sees major updates to its JS engine and a few other pieces) to rock with.

Bah, who am I kidding. I've got an E75 next to me, played with a Palm Pre this weekend, and now the iPhone 3GS, I just can't say that there are enough drugs in the world to dull the excitement of this month.

Here's a thought: As these devices such as the N97 hit, with widgets that are constantly using data, and if its a given that all of them will be used on AT&T, I wonder if AT&T will be monitoring increased data usage. Its no secret that the Iphone has a higher monthly fee..but I'm also wondering what the operator considers "high" usage. For myself, even tho I'm stuck on edge with my 95-1 I still manage about 28MB of usage

I knew it was spring-loaded because I have an N85 but look at it closely. It's the cheapest looking part of the phone. It's made out of lower quality plastic and it's the only part of the phone that wobbles (and everybody thought it was the screen that would wobble and have creaks)

Prices in Canada are not based on exchange rates at all. Things just cost more here because when our dollar was at parity before the recession got really bad, that's when people really noticed how much we were getting gouged. It's just part of being Canadian and why shopping trips to the US are so popular with people who live near the border. $690 is ridiculous because that's more than I paid for my N95 when I bought it like what? Almost 2 years ago?

It won't feel like a touch OS until they actually try making an OS for touch from the ground up.

I don't really see anything different in general use than the 5800 and that worries me. I love the homescreen widgets, I love that they implemented kinetic scrolling in the browser, now can we not have a quarter of the screen taken up in menus for Options and Back buttons? Implement menu scrolling without having to drag the highlight bar around and instead interact with the list (aka get whoever was bright enough to implement kinetic scrolling in the browser to implement it in the rest of the OS)? Possibly not have the entire screen taken up to enter text(although the hardware keyboard makes up for it on the N97 it's still something I don't like on for example the 5800)? It's simple things like these that show that S60 v5 in its current form is intended for a dpad and buttons and not for fingers.

i have the 5800xm and personally the input drives me nuts. i love the phone and the interface, but not having a real keypad make it unusable for more than a day. After that I just get too frustrated.

it could be as early as winter/spring of 2010 in time for the olympics for all we know. all i'm saying is, when it's all said and done, there will be at the least 2 other choices for GSM and direct competition for rogers/fido. it will be interesting to see how it all unfolds when it does happen.

Possible, but the real future is multiple new touchscreens coming out this fall from nokia which has been confirmed. I wouldn't be surprised at all if the N97 gets bested by one of these

Essentially, an ebay deal for the N95 that went sour for a few of us here. Would prefer not to get into details as it would make the next two months more stressful ;) Feel free to search through, unless someone feels like bringing up some old memories :2thumbs:

Seconded, especially the bolded part. 80% of ALL of my phones have been Nokias and was planning on adding the N97 to my list until they revealed all the penny pinching in the hardware.
