I agree with everything said, though I'm not sure that the backgrounder is as good a multitasker than the OS would be if they developed it natively. 256MB was a good choice but it may seem wasted if there's no true multitasking. And it would have been a good choice for N97 even with the Freescale ARM11.
 
I never heard of this keyboard issue before. So, I wouldn't judge by just one phone that too a prototype experience. Let's wait for the production version reviews.
 
Hi all,

Well sorry but what this EV is saying just doesn't make any sense unless it applies just to VodaFone Ireland as VodaFone UK is alreday taking pre orders on the N97 for delivery on launch day. The rest of whats said is pretty obvious as the Pre is meant to be going to 02 as an exclusive and i don't know how anyone could be surprised the Storm 2 will still be a VodaFone exclusive in Europe.

Is there any limit to the amount of phones you could order. I would like to order 3 or 4 then cancel them all except for 1 in the last moment before they are shipped out.
 
I don't know squat about frequencies, so I'd like to ask you guys a question. If I was to purchase whichever version of the N97 that is coming out soon, if i bring it to north america, will i be able to see the little 3G icon (assuming im in an area that covers it)? I know I should lose hope with HSPA, but 3G is still fast enough. Without 3G though... i don't see the point of getting an internet-focused device...
 
Its so True it was my comment to my friend when i saw the production video, the keyboard was 1 long strip put on my a machine and then steamed on a i guess lol
 
This problem is due because the 5800's are built and manufactured in China. I bet you that the 5800 would NOT have any build quality problems and issues if it was built in Finland. There's a huge quality difference with Nokia phones which are manufactured in China and Finland. The ones that are manufactured in China are lower quality than the ones that are made in Finland. It's too bad that Nokia is building some of their phones in China. I've owned Nokias which were made in Finland and they were all flawless. Hopefully, the N97 with the NAM will be made in Finland. The Chinese made Nokias are lower quality phones.
 
Yeah I agree Blaxx. This phone is a perfect example of whats wrong with Motorola. Could they have missed the mark any more? Seriously who is going to spend that much on something that does so little. :befuddled

I'm browsing ESPN Mobile on my E71 right now and it's not doing anything of the sort. Maybe since you guys go to desktop versions of pages on your phones is why you have complaints.
 
After reading most of the posts in this thread, I think most of the people who are detractors of this phone have tried S60v5 on the 5800 and know what the experience is like, while those who haven't owned or played extensively with the 5800 expect alot with regards to a spec sheet and some preview videos. I'm not saying that there are not any 5800 owners that dont' want the N97.

sr1329 brings up many valid arguments and balances out some of the fanboyish posts. The fact is, this is suppose to be a flagship phone and the price should reflect the hardware and software elements that should be better than the other models in Nokia's stable. However, we all know this is not the case. The N97 is priced and catagorized as a highend phone that is suppose to compete on the same level as the iPhone, Pre, and Samsung's OmniaHD whatever the uFck it's called i8910, yet it has the same basic hardware as the 5800/E71/N79 with minor software tweaks(let's face it, it's fundamentally the same as the 5800)...and it was mentioned that kinetic scrolling will appear on the 5800 in a future firmware.
 
The home screen is broken into 6 content areas. The first one is fixed with date/time/profile with the ability to press each one. Clicking the profile allows you to quickly change the current profile, the clock will take you to the clock app and setting and the date takes you to the calendar. Unfortunately it will not show you upcoming calendar events, you need to add the calendar widget to see this.

Shortcut bar has the option to place a bar with four shortcuts of your choosing on the home screen. This takes up one space as well. If you want two shortcut bars, then two slots.

So now we have:
The fixed date/time/profile bar
Shortcut bar 1
Shortcut bar 2
Calendar

This only leaves two more widget spaces.

Depending on how the contact shortcut works I may or may not use it. If I can 1-touch dial on the number pad that may work well.

Need to have quick access to email so the email widget is needed as is calendar.

Weather would be nice as would Facebook for after hours.

I need to play with the SDK some more.
