*OFFICIAL THREAD: Nokia N97

I was reading All About Symbian's article about how many units of a phone a company should manufacture at launch but they never really gave a figure. Now phone sales don't get tracked like record sales but on average, how many units of a popular phone get moved in a month on average? Anybody remember how long it took Apple to ship a million iPhones? How many N95s were sold? Last I heard, Palm is going to have 40,000 units available for launch next week. Now if this was an album from a popular artist being released, that's a huge undershipment but there is a big difference between a $12 CD and a $500 phone right?
 
I would like to know from you why that you think that the touch screen on the ETERNITY is BETTER than that touch screen on the 5800? Please explain what the ETERNITY touch screen has which makes it better than the 5800 touch screen? :confused:
 
The E71 does not do this and it's one of the few things I miss about the Blackberry OS. Such a convenient feature. But seeing how there is a designated key for a period on the E71, it isn't as crucial of a feature as opposed to BBs that always have the period mapped to the same key as 'M'
 
this phone looks great and all, but nokias biggest problem (hint, learn from apple), is dont announce something so f*king far in advance! ok, so i'm excited about this phone (even with no 850 band), and i would honestly pay $700 to buy it today.. but to wait 6-7 months?? by then the new iphone will probably be announced/out, and God knows what else from htc, sony, etc. Nokia needs to become smart, and only announce something when it is a few weeks away from production, that way to keep the excitment going.. trust me in 6-7 months, theres going to be bigger and better things to lust after.. just my opinion...

otherwise, i love this phone! one thing i hate about my touch pro is the lack of the tilt, which is VERY convinent for watching and browsing while the phone is on a table. Its an n series with the customizability of an e series, + a touch screen :)
 
I'm not even sure how relevant the N97 will be 8 months from now when it finally enters the NA market. I'm sure other phones will trump it, maybe even sooner - look at the new Samsung that was leaked recently, 8MP, S60 etc

Nokia has a serious product launch strategy issue. Why they can't minimize the time between the announcement of a phone and its actual global launch is beyond me.

I truly believe the company is mismanaged. It boggles my mind.
 
Point is, that besides legit issues with your #1 point, I have no idea what you mean in 2-5..other than the browser is really a bad experience.
 
Man maybe i could somehow make a video cause i don't find things that bad at all.

Also the pop ups about security warnings can be turned off or hidden in the settings i believe. I also thought it only happened the first time visiting a certain page. Not sure about that though.
 
IsaacDP, congrats, being a father is the best thing that has ever happened to me at least, so enjoy it - it's a huge change but for the better! We are having our second one in September.. hmm... perhaps I should get a N97 now that I would still have a bit of time to play with it! :D
 
i noticed it when i watched the video too. its hard to tell if it animates or not. he does it very quickly and there could be a glitch in the video as well. im going to give it the benefit of the doubt and assume that it drags.
 
Very likely not.

The tiniest of change e.g. the speaker placement and speaker grill material and shape likely has a significant impact on the speaker sound and volume on such tiny speakers... So I doubt it's quite as simple as Nokia designers being idiots again. :) there is of course the notorious need to differentiate products too.
 
I am really glad they didn't pull a SE with xperia and announce a phone to release it almost a year later. Q2 09 is only 3-6 months if they stay on track and so far the software is looking really good.
