*OFFICIAL THREAD: Nokia N97

-With all of the big launch devices, Nokia has always launched them at the very end of their projected launch dates.

-In my history of spending several thousands of dollars in Nokia equipment (quite the waste), there has been ONE simultaneous NAM/EURO launch and it was on a low-end S60 handset. Nokia has already said that the NAM version will launch "within weeks" after the EURO version, so that already rules out a simultaneous release.

-The OmniaHD is already cheaper than the N97, so even if it doesn't drop in price, it'll be less money when the two are put next to each other. Given another 2 months between them, I'd say the odds are pretty good that it will drop further, as technology seems to do.

I mean, do you really expect Nokia to change the way they have launched all of their previous handsets just for the N97?

Thank you.

Lol, u would think so, but for a lot of us. I have yet to keep a phone more than a few months, regardless of price. Keep in mind that if I pay $800 for the n97, I can sell it for at least $600 a few months later. the way I see it, I lease phones :)

Just been onto the Forum Nokia RDA to have another play with the N97 and found that the OVI Store is now up and running!!!!
Shouldn't be long now until its officially available to us all hopefully :)

Well, take what my friend said with a grain of salt considering who his employer is. He moved from Brazil (generally warm in most states) to Finland and landed in the middle of the winter in that country. What he told me was that one day he was outdoors (-20 C or something like that) with three devices, an iPod, an old Palm PDA and his new (by that time) N70 and only the Nokia would work.

They're rapidly deploying dual-band 3G across their network, at least where they have licenses. They have to, they need the capacity. (They can't really put more than one 3G channel on 850 without completely canning GSM850, so those markets had to go dual-band to get more capacity)

It won't be very much longer before any at&t 3G market has both bands available.

Here's my problem with statements from you and your like. Why do we care what Nokia does next year? We don't work for Nokia, own stock in Nokia, or profit from what they do, so why should we think they should they have matched the OmniaHD spec for spec? They built a device that's more than good enough for most of the people here (again, not you and your like) so explain why they should have done better? Because you're a disappointed fanboy who would have loved to buy a N97 to say you got the latest Nokia but the nerd in you is a spec whore so you decided to buy the OmniaHD? It's okay if that's the case, it's clear that Nokia doesn't make devices with fanboys in mind.

If the OS on the N97 is said to be almost the same as the 5800 XpressMusic, then I think it would be worth the wait to hold out for this next generation of devices instead.

Could the N97 be nothing more than an extra large 5800? If that's the case, I may surely have to pass on it.

He was banned for using a second account to falsely improve his feedback in the BST. There was a guy going around spamming everyone who asked with a PM that had all the details. I don't have it anymore. I think he got banned from Heatware because of it too.

Good luck to everyone for the N97 to ship tomorrow. After almost 5600 posts in this thread, you guys are clearly beyond excited and shouldn't have to suffer waiting any longer. :buddies:

Someone should make a quick easy app with just the compass. Maybe that's something I'll do, since most of my other ideas are looking more complicated/time consuming.

Navigation and GPS wasn't really high on my list (I have in-dash navigation on my daily driver), but glad to see it there.
