*OFFICIAL THREAD: Nokia N97

It doesn't support multitasking, or support somes kind of half-baked multitasking. So I'm pretty sure even with 128MB, the N97 will still multitask better than the iPhone. That's just my opinion, since none of the phones are out, we'll only know at the end of June.

Same here. I've owned 3 other Nokia cell phones within the last 10 years and they were all decent phones. The best Nokia of them all was purchased directly from the NokiaUSA website for around $230 or $250 back in 1999. I don't remember the model number of this particular Nokia phone, but it was really VERY HEAVY duty and water resistant. This Nokia phone was made in FINLAND and it had a special heavy rubber sheath case and buttons which pulled out and opened up in 2 separate pieces in order to get to the actual phone. The phone also had a built in camera, a flashlight and a speakerphone and also an FM radio. The call quality and the reception was excellent and the speakerphone sound was very very clear and had almost stereo quality sound. I had this phone for a few months then I gave it to my sexy wife who had it for over 4 years. This phone was a workhorse and it took a beating. At the end after all the abuse, the speakerphone on the phone was not working properly, but the phone itself was still working well, but was starting to give us problems because of the heavy usage and abuse that it was getting over the long period of time of ownership. Finally, I ended up getting a Motorolla flip phone, but the Motorolla was not even close in call quality, in reception and in build quality when compared to the Nokia. That's why I also trust Nokia just like you do. They no doubt make excellent quality phones.

Thats what that 1500 milli beast is for! This would be the perfect phone with that Xenon flash. I am in NYC and 1900 3G is everywhere so I can do without 850. After using N78 FP2 and N810 with slide out keyboard and Maemo operating system, I can confidently say Nokia have really nailed it with form factor and features.

i want this phone really really bad but i am holding off on it because of the touchscreen i didnt like the 5800 touchscreen too much .... i honestly do like the glass touch screen of the iphone i hope the n97 is kinda simaller to that i am holding off getting a bold and a ominahd for this i hope its gonna be really worth it. i was just hoping that nokia would'ev had a more advanced phone like the ominahd but its ok.

it is still beinhd in technology so it can swivel up like the tilt for the most part that s cool and all but if the screen doesnt have the same function in style like the zoom in and out etc as the iphone then for the US it wont sell nearly as well. its an ok phone but at nd of the day its just another slider/candy bar. if it had something that set it truly apart from competition it would be great

I just got a call from Nokia wanting me to verify my shipping and billing address. The rep said my order went though and it's now on the next stage. I guess I'll hear back from them in a few months.

The 2G and 3G get faster browsers too because its an update to safari so it's not even a pro of the 3GS.

Nobody is clamoring about it being faster here...and I just looked at the apple forum for a brief second and there are a lot of sad people in there too

Proximity sensor. When you hold the phone to your face, it turns the screen off and disables the touchscreen so that it conserves battery power and you don't accidentally press anything

Without XDA hackers a lot of WinMo devices would have never gotten firmware updates, manufacturers only provides updates for their devices for a time, they won't support it forever, iPhone first generation won't get even MMS with the new firmware and I doubt that's because a hardware limitation, it's just Apple business, and that's without commenting that iPhone and Android were half baked OSs in terms of functions when they came out.

I have JS enabled and don't have this problem. I set my browser to full screen and it loads once and once only. The spacebar being over the right really bothers you that much? LOL.

I'll get the EDGE only, because the Sapphire Arte is running $700 to me, and I'm going to get bored of it in matter of days.

Might as well get something that's useful.

Or, a flashy phone?

Damnit. I need to decide!

Can I then add a plus for the screen being absolutely gorgeous indoors? Or a minus for the N97 for being thicker?

I left those out because each balance with another advantage. The OmniaHD has a larger body to accommodate a larger screen, the N97 is thicker because it has a QWERTY keyboard, the OLED is much better than the N97's LCD, but only indoors, etc.

Minus the touch screen
Minus the qwerty
Minus ~2 Megapixels
Minus screen size

The 5630 doesnt seem to much better than the N97 in my opinion. Nice little price point though.

After the N97, I will only get the next phone that has Xenon flash and ~5 MP with a qwerty keyboard. Dual LED is getting annoying now and no one else is really stepping up to the plate.

Also, I understand people want to bash Nokia for rehashing phones and reusing processors and placing higher features along different phones, but Nokia is a business, and its just business. No company is making an end all phone. A company is not going to cater to a select few of us who complain about missing 166 MHz from the rest of the competition. Lets be serious. All companies milk us year after year, its life. Nokia does it, Apple damn sure does it, and so does every other mobile company. Its common sense. The sooner complainers realize this, the less stressed out they would be.

From my experiences, the 5800XM had great sound, but wasn't as loud as some other kinda-recent devices. I had the chance to bring my brand new (at the time) 5800XM to my buddy's party and we tried to watch a video on the 5800XM. Couldn't hear anything but some muffled sound over the noise. He pulled out his N95-4 and pulled up the same video and it was much easier to not only hear over the noise, but also to distinguish what was being said in the video too.

Great speakers on both, but I would expect the N97 to take its pointers from louder devices.
