*OFFICIAL THREAD: Nokia N97

QWERTY is a lil more convenient sometimes but it gives the misconception that you can type 70 WPM with your thumbs LOL (Yes, I know some people can and that sickens me :D)

You and me both.

Man once you start using a device with a screen that big, it's hard to go back to 2.6" screens. You'll see.

Colors pop with the N85, but there's so much more to see with an N97. :)

I never thought that this would happen but I miss having a dedicated camera key on my phone. I hardly take pics with my phone but yesterday I had to take a pic of something to send to someone and realized how ridiculous it is to use the letter 'T' to autofocus and the scroll key for the shutter on the E71. Maybe I'll end up taking more pictures with my phone because of that.

Unlock isnt too far. Yellowsn0w is already there for OS 2.0. But yes, you are right about not going directly to the "new" email.

But, it's still the beta OS. Who knows what's going to be out by June.

No. While I wouldn't mind multitouch, I've NEVER wanted to pinch zoom and find a rocker much superior solution. First, you don't need two hands for a rocker. Try to pinch zoom with one hand. Second, I don't find pinching an intuitive motion and don't even use it on my Macbook Pro (I do love 4-finger expose and 3-finger front/back in the browser... too bad Apple is totally inconsistent from their phone UI to the laptop UI wrt multitouch).

I have no problems with the N97 keyboard. It appears to be a love it or hate it, thing but at least I don't lose screen real estate when my keyboard is out. :2thumbs:

Mass storage, N97 wins also, since it can be expanded.
Can you carry a spare battery with an iPhone? You have alternatives such as juicepacks and external batteries that plug into the dock, etc. This is mostly a concern for me if the phone lasts long enough to get to the dying battery mark - less of a concern around parts like these where we change phones almost as often as we change clothes. :D

If we only had Ovi, you might be right. AAS, my-symbian, apps directly from google.com, etc are far more balancing (if not preferable, but that depneds on your point of view). The iPhone definitely has more apps... too bad 98% of them are worthless.

lol what. First, Nokia Messaging is better than anything the iPhone boys got based on our testing, especially as far as push/notification, but might not help that we were all using gmail. At the very worst, it's a wash... if you're a gmail, guy the iPhone has issues.

I have yet to run into any out of memory issues, including using vNES and taking pics all the while leaving facebook accuweather and/or bloomberg with the Mail widget going.

Flick scrolling works great on the N97 in the browser. I wouldn't mind if it was elsewhere, but I wish Nokia would do 10 other things first than add that
sort of fluffy symbolism over substance feature.

As a phone, the 3GS still sucks as much as the 3G and 2G . As an entertainment/app device it's pretty good, but only if you want what it can do. As a convergence device, the N97 is still unparalleled. :buddies:

They do not need to create an OS from scratch, but the interface must be created from scratch for a touch screen device. It seems like they've done that for the N97. Let's hope this phone spurs some development. There are no barriers to entry to the OVI store so that's nice.

Right? ..... Why do they always have to do something to p... people off?

Anyway, I'm back on the N86's bandwagon. I prying that they're not using that same ridiculous paint.

Dear Nokia: if you say the phone it's white, paint it white for GOD's Sake!

Wouldn't that mean there should be some other form of memory storage for system information? This would be really useful, but has anybody have confirmation on this? If I understand correctly, you're saying it's like formatting a computer, but leaving Windows intact?

I like the keyboard :p its actually pretty good...I suggest using it in person before knocking it! Thta was actually the first thing I did when I went to the Nokia store, play with the keyboard ;)

The ONLY reason why I'm a Nokia fanboy is because I like the screen size on the N97 and I also like the $454 price tag that I got it at. The big screen size will be great for using the phone for internet web surfing and for text/instant messaging. I would never spend anymore than $454 for a cell phone or for any type of Nokia phone. I used to own Nokia phones over the last 10 years and they all had excellent call quality. That's another reason why I grabbed the $454 deal. Most of the other cell phones currently on the market don't have decent call quality like Nokia phones do. I think that I made an excellent purchase decision on the N97.

You guys may want to calm down. I went through these ups and downs with my 5800 preorder. It wasn't a good time. Nokia will not even begin to ship anything until they charge your credit card. So I won't get excited until then
