*OFFICIAL THREAD: Nokia N97

I'm pretty sure another reason they're dumping old processors into these is to get as much money from this platform before Symbian^2/3/4 or whatever is going to be out next year..

I don't think this phone will be supported either once the new OS comes out which is another reason i'm iffy on spending a lot on it. This is just a way to pass the time for them and not something I would've expected in 2009 from them. But I guess you can do that when you're on the top.

I wonder how crazy people over in the Palm forum are going over the Pre's $849 price tag. This is one of the pros of Nokia not having carrier support of their higher end devices in North America. The no-contract price from the carrier would be astronomical and third party retailers wouldn't have to be too competitive, they would just have to come in lower than the contract price.

Every time I see video of the N97 the screen looks like it can't possibly be real. It's not AMOLED but have you noticed how bright and clear it appears from any angle?

With all those other apps running in the background? I had 3 bars when I left work yesterday and I was listening to music and podcasts all day. Without all of the apps running it would probably play for over 24 hrs continuously. SlickIM has got to be the biggest battery drain EVER.

Doesn't look like they were meant to be samples. Just some people with pre (or not) production N97's taking them out for a spin. It seems the bloggers have taken the ball and ran with it about using these to measure the N97's camera abilities, which look more or less the same as the N85's or the N79's.

*Requesting a changelog of camera features from previous Nseries 5mp shooters to the one in the N97.

I felt the exact same way once I read it as well.

I only championed the ESeries since it offered the qwerty along with some reliable messaging capability. However, there was always a void felt in multimedia support with video footage from the camera as well as the graphical interface of the Gallery. The E90's camera gave a great performance that matched the N95 that I had owned at one point, but the E71 is not up to par.

I hope that this N97 will definitely be a flawless merger of NSeries and ESeries characteristics that I had been looking for.

This is what happens with a company that wants and has so much control over your apps. AT&T's network can't handle the load so they make Apple cripple the apps. Same thing happened to Skype which only works over wifi.

Like I said, we'll see. I'm still not crazy about the idea of push notifications (hell, I'm not crazy about the iPhone at all), but I think it was a good move on Apple's part to up the internal hardware. If the iPhone performed as well as it did with only 128mb of RAM without multitasking of any sorts, I'm interested to see what the 3G S can do with 256mb of RAM and push notifications and a next-gen CPU+HWA.

Those are good reasons..do they outweigh the presence of the inferior resistive touch screen? I guess that's personal..but if the touch is anything like the N800 (810) it doesn't hold a candle to the Iphone's capacitive touch
