*OFFICIAL THREAD: Nokia N97

But to be fair Truth, we are on the S60 forum so most people here are very much in love with S60 devices......You really can't say that your N85 has a better web browsing experience than the Iphone.

I can say from my experience that I've used every phone except for the Iphone and every platform has good and bad. I got rid of the N96 because for me, the multimedia was awesome, but emailing/messaging on the N-series phones are horrible. I'm hoping that the N97 with a hardware keyboard and hopefully an updated messaging interface will help to fix that. I also think the Palm Pre will be interesting.......The next few months are going to be interesting with all these devices coming out....and also the next gen Iphone is due to be announced in June.

I agree. Nokia might be the number 1 cellphone manufacturer (if you exclude Japan...), but in the laptop industry, they'll be like a newborn baby. I cannot see how they can compete with the giants that have been there for decades.
It's just as if somebody comes up with a new gaming system... it'll be near impossible to compete with Nintendo, Sony, and Microsoft. Even if you are yourself a big brand, it's a whole new field... Unless they just let everybody else do the work for them, and they just slash up a big Nokia logo on the top of the laptop... But whatever... I think the Nokia engineers are a bit in over their head with their innovative cockiness.

E75 was probably designed a long time ago and may have suffered developmental setbacks before it was announced.

N86/N97 were designed after the 369 series, more setbacks.

E55/6710/6720 probably didn't need much development.

Maybe Eldar's timing wasn't coincidental. Firmware update... maybe two, depending how many bug tickets they have and what priority they are....

That and the camera performance under low light. The N86 seems to be able to capture decent pictures under low light with its dual-LED flash, I wonder if the N97 can do the same.

Both of them REALLY lack in the cam and/or storage part (G1 on both, iPhone on the former). Good point on the bluetooth. Completely unrestricted is the goal. iPhone will always be a fail on that. No way are they going to allow transfers to ringtones, etc that don't require hacks. Once you jail break, you can fix many problems, but hacking/modding moves this into a different discussion.

To each his/her own..but I was enjoying my 95-1 for months before you took the plunge on your 95-4...I never thought the 95-1 was inferior at all, even when everybody was jumping up and down about this or that

I just got a chance to play with a demo of the N97 at the flagship store in Chicago. Slider is awesome, but friedbrains was right about the keyboard. There's not a lot of feedback to it at all and it's hard to tell if you've pressed a button or not. Definitely try it before you buy it. I'm posting from an E65 and this keyboard is much' much better.

The screen was also not as flimsy as the 5800XM, but it still feels very much like a resistive screen. Screen protectors will be a must.

Otherwise good size overall and not too thick.

I agree ... newer 720p standard at 30fps with AAC/mp4 audio at 44'100khz sampling in 24-bit ;). Its time we do a motel road trip and make our own supply for the California adult stores.

slashd0t sounds like he's contemplating breaking up with a girl that doesn't treat him right but is smoking hot. He knows he can leave her, go out and get another hot chick who will treat him better but she won't be hot like THIS (Ummmm....OmniaHD or Palm Pre are good examples here I guess). So he breaks up with her, but thinks about running back to her. He talks himself into and out of it several times until he sees her with someone else (when slashd0t sees someone else using an N97 in person) and he will finally decide once and for all whether he wants her back or never again. LOL
