*OFFICIAL THREAD: Nokia N97

Agreed. If it had S60 or even Android, it would still be in my rotation.

On a side note, I actually preferred the resolution on the Fuze over the X1a. It's funny, but my X1a reminds me of my Vaio P.

That's being fixed with 3.0 and there's also an iBluetooth app for sending files. This feature took a while to open up, but it will be there when the new software lands.

As nice as it is to have something you purchase online delivered as soon as humanly possible, I like to have some choice in how my item is delivered, particularly the cheaper choice. I say this as a Canadian where we are usually charged international shipping rates and duty for goods we purchase from the US so it's not too bad to have to wait 5-7 days when they already want your first born just to get it across the border.

Im not going to buy it from them, im going to wait for my dell order. I was merely making that post to show that stores are claiming to have it in stock. (Which I don?t believe him)

Here, I'll help explain it as best I can.

This is the MXC300-30. All of its features are integrated into a single chip, much like your basic $299.99 desktop from Best Buy has the integrated video card all on the motherboard.

This is the OMAP3430. Notice that its ISP is sitting right next to the 3D hardware accelerator, IVA2+ accelerator, and the main CPU. The former relies on all functions to be performed by the single chip, whereas the latter has separate dedicated chips, similar to a 3rd party video card in your desktop.

I hope that clears it up. The Freescale does feature a separate ISP for specific multimedia functions, but so does the OMAP3430 in addition to its other dedicated hardware. If any of that is incorrect, please, someone who knows better feel free to correct me.

Still waiting on a couple people to report back on how much this all matters from their own first-hand use with the device.

This is exactly what it is to me. It has everything that I missed from my N95.
If not for the glitch pricing, I would've stuck with the N95, I would've never paid $700 for that phone.

This thread should be broken into its own subforum. This way we can break the thread down into:

and now Apple Laptops. I often wish Nokia stops announcing phones 9 months before their release. This thread has been doing 360s since the sale started.

Don't be bad mate!
They did put 3 Megapixels camera with autofocus and video recording, MMS and copy and paste. Apple once again is changing the world!!
Maybe by 2020 they will figure out other GSM and smartphone standards such as Video Call and MultiTasking.

You and the people like you are starting to paint a very clear picture as to how the N97 will be a success. It seems that Nokia really let down the long-time fans, whereas the device appears to be a huge achievement to those who haven't used anything running S60 before.

The only point I want to stress to you is that the amount of RAM and the processor are important and if found to not be adequate, will absolutely shatter your perception of the N97 as a mini laptop computer. Nokia's been using the term "multimedia computer" for years now, and while I agree S60 is the closest thing on the software side, the decisions made for the basic hardware in the N97 are a HUGE slide in the wrong direction.

Would you buy laptop with a huge screen and all the features you ever wanted if it had 512mb of RAM and a 1ghz processor? All of the features that should make a device like this a cohesive experience can be ruined if they don't have the processing power to keep the experience cohesive.

They didn't specify any internal hardware changes, but they did say everything inside was changed and talked about various applications running much faster than the last iPhone.

So, yes, there is most probably a new processor under the hood. More RAM is the question.

I am looking for:

- Better camera with flash (LED, XEON or whatever)
- Physical keyboard
- Memory card
- Removable battery
- 3.5MM
- Something that I can drop (not intentionally) on the floor
- It's Nokia!!

I would be happy with E71 if it has better camera and 3.5mm jack. I also give E75 a try but camera sucks and keyboard starts to wobble when closed. I guess I am too darn picky!

You really don't want to play that card anymore. As you all should know, I'm not an iPhone fanboy in the least, but the iPhone has unabashedly embarrassed the entire concept of Ngage gaming with everything that has come out of the app store and it's largely due to the faster processor+hardware acceleration. The gap is only going to get wider if the next iPhone does indeed have 256mb of RAM and a 600mhz processor like everything else. Gaming may not be your thing, but if it is, Ngage is not a stronger point than the games in the app store.

They also may just be numbers, but we're going to find out very soon how much of a difference the processor+RAM makes when the OmniaHD reviews start rolling out. We've seen faster processors on other platforms perform much slower than S60 because WM and others have a very hard time managing their resources. For non-gaming S60 fans, the iPhone was anything but comparable also since lower clocked devices like the E71 are still WAY faster than it, but now we'll really be able to see how much a difference it really makes with better hardware on the same OS.

Again, not trying to sell anybody on the OmniaHD, just trying to stress the importance of keeping up to speed on hardware.

@Dimmy:

1. I don't think Amazon gets the phone before Nokia can

2. Probably price..but from what I think, Amazon is a little more customer oriented than Nokia direct. I will not look forward to dealing with them if there is a glitch in the order.

That being said, this is my first experience with a pre order. If I had the patience, I'd wait for about 3-4 wks after release-then there is a whole host of online retailers to deal with.
