*OFFICIAL THREAD: Nokia N97

@Blaxx

You know what you really do talk some garbage sometimes Rim have changed and keep on modernising thier Os and for your information when i bought my Bold which was my first BlackBerry. It was between the E71 or Bold and the Bold won hands down with a much better screen, better Muisc playback with a 3.5m jack, better Video playback and better built in functionallity and all from a business devcie. Actually both Music and Video playback are better than on most if not all N series devices oh and better build quality to.

It really says it all when Rim is gaining market share at a rapid rate and Nokia's losing it. That's the market speaking not fan boys and people voting with their wallets as to what's best for them. I've seen more changes in my Bolds Os in 9 months then Nokia have made in 3 years and Nokia or S60 can't even fix a flaming call log issue in that long either. Stop knocking other Os you so obviously appear to know nothing about and defending Nokia as though they are perfect which lets face it is far from being true. As i said i can't see anything released or coming soon that's going to stop Nokia and S60 losing market share if anything it's likely to get worse for them with SF and any real changes so far away. Only time will show us who's called this right but it won't be left to opinions the figures will speak for them self.

Neither of them are trolling, xEAP is a pain in the neck to get working on S60 devices.

If you're going to sit all high and mighty, you should at least know something about something.

I think the problem is once the n97 is loaded up with running widgets, a few apps in the background, and the web browser all going at once, you're gonna have some problems due to ram and cpu. I don't think this forward thinking has occurred to nokia. Its gonna be lag city.

Well the phone is very data-intensive whether you're using 3G or not. Just with 3G you get your data faster. I'd invest in a data plan no matter which version you get.

And that is the beauty of it, research and your own hands on experience, but most of us rely on other people's reviews and experiences because we don't live near NYC or a flagship store or anyplace else to physically handle such a device.

It would be very expensive to buy the phone, not like it, and then have to return it with a restocking fee in some cases.

I appreciate ALL discussion, novel length or not, that brings up good points and helps to foster my own thoughts and feelings about the phone.

sr1329 has passion for Nokia. I can read it in his words, he doesn't hate the company, he like me, is severely disappointed with them for not bringing it to the table hardcore, lagging behind a predominantly MUSIC orientated company that was never in the cell phone market but has a one-hit wonder and now Nokia is taking steps towards reclaiming their throne, but are making some missteps in his opinion!

I have my sights set on an N97, and you know what? After reading his posts I am a little less impressed with the same old stuff and gazing at the Palm Pre with interest. I wasn't to keen on yet another phone without Xenon Flash to begin with, for me that feature is functional, but it looks like I may have to accept that we won't see that anymore and move on.

Choices are good, remember that. It's what companies want you to forget, so they can shovel the same crap and get paid. EA's Battlefield 1943 anyone? ;)

I am one of the guys who woke up at 3:30 am local time to check what the countdown was for.

I am not disappointed, this is just a beautiful thing.

I am still going to get the 5800 xpressmusic while I wait for this

Just look at the start of the video where he scrolls down and then tries miserably to scroll back up and then gives up!

If they bothered to ask consumers, i'm sure no one was insisting on a resistive screen

I haven't read through this whole thread, but I have yet to see any of the hardcore N97 fans complain about the RAM/CPU. I have, however, seen them defend it as the right choice for the phone and say that there's no point in using anything faster, which is just nonsense.

What I bolded is the point. None of us can see what can or can't be developed in the future. When the iPhone was first released, nobody would have imagined that the iPhone would have been such a hit with 3rd party applications. The only thing that can be done to help move us toward future development is include hardware that can use it. S60 is an incredible beast for the low amounts of resources it uses compared to WM, but imagine what could be done if it did have faster hardware and developers were able to use it? That's what I'm trying to get at. Without taking the first step, we'll never know.

I could see getting the euro version and staying on T-Mo if it was going to be significantly cheaper. But just having the option to go to AT&T 3G has quite a bit of appeal. Of the two iPhone Nazi's at my work (one 3G, the other the original 2.5G), the one with 3G is advising me to stay with T-Mobile if I'm fond of the service (which I am, thanks to my cushy grandfathered voice plan), since he said he's almost always in wifi range thanks to all the hot spots, etc opened up to his iPhone).

The other... let's just say he's my top target for my scheme to buy the new iPhone, use the 3G plan on my N97 NAM and sell him the new phone to replace his 2.5G. Then everyone is happy.

Weird that the exif data is gone. It's there from Eldar's and IIRC the mail.ru one.

EDIT: Just checked and exif IS there, but only the ORIGINAL sized pics, not the resized. Which makes perfect sense, actually. Confirmed on 3 of these pics, so I imagine for all them.

Good quality indeed. Looks like the AF thing Eldar mentioned was fixed. Wonder why they did that near last instead of right away.
