*OFFICIAL THREAD: Nokia N97

We still see debates here about what the dual cpu really is. I knew that in all circumstances that these phones are not truly Dual-CPU because that tech is coming up in the OMAP 4340.

When they list "dual-cpu" it is practically just the one CPU that is doing the applications processing.

Pretty surprising that the network CPU in the OMAP phones is powerful enough to run an N78. I wonder how Samsung supports network functions on their S60 phones.

I feel the same way. I really just want a 5800 with physical QWERTY and better camera.....which the N97 will deliver.

On a separate note....I randomly stopped by an Apple store yesterday and briefly played with an iPhone. Now while I have grown to cherish S60, it sure would be nice if Nokia's smartphone UI was as smooth as the iPhone's. I'm hoping that Symbian Foundation will pick up the slack in that area.

Bah, enough about the iPhone.....I WANT MY N97!!

I would say it is almost too late for them to change if it they are going to release it in the first half of 09. They still need to get the factories ready and start pumping out a couple hundred thousand so that usually takes a couple months of prep which leaves them very little time to change and test the hardware. It's extremely rare to make a major change like that so late in development. If the browser runs as good as it did on the video I'll be happy regardless of cpu though I would prefer an omap3. Archos is using them in their new pmp and the browser was shown to be faster than nokia and the iphones by a pretty healthy margin. Just my two cents. I'm looking forward to trying the N97 out immensely.

I've never liked touchscreen-only phones (I've seen too many people complain about their HTC Touch), you know that. N97 has a keyboard tho, I can forgive it for it's touchscreen because I've used an HTC TyTN and a TyTN II and the XPERIA X1. I know you don't have to rely on the touchscreen whatsoever.

Just sold 2 iphone 3G on eBay to fund for the N97. =)

Can't believe people are that crazy over them, they sold within 24 hours at $650 a piece.

Going to use the $550 profit for the N97... :clapping: :clapping: :clapping:

Someone in here(forgot who) mentioned that the screen was glass directly from the mouth of Nokia reps at a recent hands-on but I still don't see how that's possible.

I couldn't have said it better myself! By comparison to many of the forum members, my use may be extremely limited and so the N97 may be just fine for my needs.

There is some concern for the feel of the qwerty keypad after JohnnyBruha's initial impressions, for I certainly did not like the typing experience on the N810 when I owned it. I am also hoping that apps such as Missing Sync for Symbian, Nokia Messaging, and Sports Tracker are all compatible with the N97 so that it is on par with the usage I have with the E71. Who knows, if this device can meet all of my app needs, then I may be patient enough to get used to the typing experience of the qwerty. Other than that, I am really looking forward to having the multimedia support that I remembered having with the N95 but could never get from the E90 or E71.

As tempting as it is to consider the negative aspects of the N97 and the manner in which Nokia seems to be competing in the market, I only know that the Nokia ESeries has given me the best user experience so far. This is after having used different operating systems and form factors via the Palm Treo 680, BB Pearl, HTC TyTN 1 and 2, Touch Pro, Diamond, Treo 750, HP 910, iMate 9502 and the Apple iPhone.

At this point, I can only reserve my opinion until I unbox my own white N97 from Amazon.

If I remember correctly he said he picked it up at a store in Toronto. God forbid he got himself a NOKLA.

On another note, I received an email from Nokia Customer Service saying that the N97 would be backordered until July.

I was thinking one thing, the best hardware doesn't automatically mean the best fit. If I have children and I'm looking for a car, maybe the most advanced hardware (think of a 2 seat Ferrari with an engine with 550 HP) won't fit my needs as well as a minivan.

No phone is worth $1600. It'll probably be 700-800 at the most. iPhone 3G and 2G prices will drop just like any other phone on the market.

I'm not expecting anything major but what is being upgraded will beef the phone up considerably. It'll be powerful and finally be able to multitask properly. If the camera sensor isn't grainy and video recording is decent the N-series will lose its edge to my needs.
