*OFFICIAL THREAD: Nokia N97

my definition is a mobile OS that is scalable in terms of it can add applications that were NOT developed by the manufacturer, that can multi task and integrate INTO the OS as if they WERE from the manufacturer. the key is multi tasking and scalable. meaning if a company just made an awesome phone with 4 apps, and all 4 apps coule multi task, that is still NOT a smartphone. if you could install a 5th app that could integrate and multi task jsut like the other 4, then that IS a smartphone OS. that's my definition anyway.

Nokia continues their interesting stylus designs:

Eh, I wish i could read russian but observations from this picture:
1.Rejoice! They fixed the light leak on the white phones.
2. ...why is the 5800 that much more vibrant?
Compared to the N85..

All manufacturers should be like Apple.. should not allow any restrictions by at&t. Look that iPhone, there is no at&t crap in that phone.. even no logo on the phone ;)

Who said I'd be using a gun? I'd sneak on you guys on your way home. I'll use the 'Post your photos from your S60 phone' thread to find out where you guys hang out and where you guys like to eat (since you guys love taking pics of food) and catch yall slippin there. You're welcome to join me Prom for your own safety lol

Oh I thought you were trying to talk yourself into buying it. I don't even know what Pandora really is since we can't use it in Canada but I assume it's streaming online radio? Mobbler is awesome for that.

This isn't true successor for N95 and there won't be +15 million buyers queuing for this. N900 might be Nokia's big leap, but that haven't even been announced yet ;)
Thought like you i'm waiting this device eagerly too. Still not one device have made me wow like iphone or N95/N82. After the N97 looking to the Maemo 5, Pre and iphone direction. Not getting another 5th edition device or even Symbian....

Unboxing video! :2thumbs:

That's what I was thinking but I hope Nokia wisens up and treats the NAM variant the same way they treat the EURO variant but that remains to be seen...

That's a good question. We'll have wait for reports from white E71 users and the like to see if the white is going to stay white. But for a majority of users here, the N97 will be replaced with something new before it becomes an issue. ;)

I have never had the same experience with T9 when I use phones of different brands. Meh.

I think using this iPhone for almost a year erased my motor skills for T9 :( I had to use my friend's razr the other day and it took me a minute to type out a simple message.

A bit of a tangent, and all fanboyism aside, to familiarize yourself with the capabilities of only 128mb of RAM, all you have to do is use the 5800XM for a little bit. It's not bad by any stretch of the imagination, but if you start to keep enough apps open and load a fairly large sized web page, you will start to see out of memory errors and apps close by themselves in the background. I am eagerly awaiting some real user reviews to determine if the same is true in the N97, which I would imagine would be worse with the widgets constantly running (with no option to disable the widget home screen).

The iPhone on the other hand is a completely different beast. It's true that it doesn't "multitask" by the same definition of real smartphone/desktop multitasking, but with push notifications available, Cortex A8 CPU architecture, and 256mb of RAM available, most of the complaints related to a lack of multitasking will probably be eliminated. Again, we'll have to wait until some users get their hands on the device to see if this is the case.

The point is there's no reason to give the N97 credit for having less RAM than the new iPhone until we can really see what difference it makes in real-world usage. Until we do, it's just numbers.
