*OFFICIAL THREAD: Nokia N97

I'm new to the whole concept of ordering phones, normally I just buy brand carrier ones, a couple things are confusing me.

1:How would amazon get you a phone before Nokia could?

2: is there some advantage by going with amazon? Like say price?

Forgive me if it's off topic, but I am looking to get this N97 and I just wanted to know the best way of going about it, thanks in advance guys.

For the old widget discussion:

I just realized that I wont keep email on my home screen. I woke up today to find a bunch of spam that made its way through gmails filter talking about "Make your penis bigger with megagain." I can imagine showing my female boss my phone with that right on that headline on the screen lol.

I also wont have shortcuts, I would put my main apps on the root of the menu.

I am glad they let you change default applications now thats a huge plus. Hopefully they can do the same with messaging in the future.

ExZeRoEx,

You will still have your Edge, no worries.

i saw this. what if its just the nokia 5800 with capacitve screen? doesn't really change my mind... unless they make a n97 with teh capactive screen, that would suck

After seeing peering over at the E71x thread, I really hope no North American carrier ever picks up another S60 phone. They want to impose too much of their will onto the phones and after you've used an unlocked, unbranded version, there's really no comparison.

I never knew that RIM are the Blackberry phones up until now. I've seen the Blackberry phones in stores like Staples, Best Buy and the AT&T store, but they never interested me. I don't know about you, but some of the Blackberries look ugly and they are too squarish looking. The Nokia phones IMHO are much nicer looking and they have decent features. The Blackberry is mostly a business phone which big corporations give to their executives. The Blackberry is not a phone that can be used for both business and entertainment like the N97 can. I don't think that we should compare the Blackberry with the N97. The N97 has an additional use as an entertainment phone which the Blackberry is NOT. Please take this into consideration when tryint to compare one cell phone with another.

I'd just like to point out that outside the usa this phone will cost $1000 dollars on release (just like the N80 and the N95). It may have it's shortcomings but for ca. $500 price isn't one of them. In north america that is

Thing is, they insist on using Wifi when in range of a known (and previous defined) AP. Too bad I can't really disable this "functionality"... I wouldn't mind if it stayed connected via edge.

I'm telling you, you put that XPERIA on the bar for a minute, slide it open and send a text message, put it back down and you already got the chick asking "What kinda phone is that?"

Once you show her the fishies, it's a wrap, she's coming home with you. LOL.
