*OFFICIAL THREAD: Nokia N97

As we have seen pictures of the box of N97-1, it's Made in Finland, I hope NAM version is not Made in China.

N85 Nam ( loose slider, creaks)
N96 Nam (Solid slider, but more creaks)
Nokia 5800 Nam (Cheap plastic, light leak)

All above Made in China.

E series are the only one that have NAM version Made in Finland.

so, UAE is the first country to get N97.

Personally, for me it does not matter where it's made at, I just want good build quality. When I sold N85 Nam, N96 Nam on eBay, I used to questions from buyers , ''Is it Made in China Copy?" I used to reply with proper information and told them, look at the pictures in the listing for authenticity of the phone. Even though I replied to their questions " All N85 Nam are Made in China'' Some buyers still ran away, they just assume that I'm selling replica just because it's ''Made in China'' I tried to reason that more and more Nokia phones will be Made in China/Korea, it's called Nokia planning to cut costs to pay less to Chinese labor.

From what I understand from Google's translated Russian, the menu button doubles as a breathing light. I guess the light is around the menu button like how it frames the select key on the E71.

This is from one of Freescale's PDFs.

"The i.MX31 includes an integrated 3D graphics processing unit that offers full-scene anti-aliasing for lifelike 3D image quality. It also provides OpenGL? ES and Java? Mobile 3D support."

They claim to have something in there. But it's probably complete crap.

Is it June yet?

Unless you're around smokers alot, it's on the scale of years (I'd guess at least 5-10). AS good as this phone is, I doubt I'll have it as the primary beyond 3 and that would be if it's a homerun. Tech moves just too quick. And then there's always case mods / replacements, which are pretty cheap on evilbay. ;)

On the high end it could be 10-15 years before there was any noticible yellowing.

One thing I never understood... if they are able to sell completly useless Vertu phones at over 5000$, why can't they create a REAL phone with REAL hardware worth 2-3k$? Its pissing me off, cuz I'd be willing to spend around 1000$ on a high-end phone (like the N97), but i hate the fact that there's always gonna be a better phone 3 months later... If you already know the technology you're gonna implement on your next phone, why not implement it on your CURRENT phone and let your R&D figure out a NEW technology (that might take at least a year to find out)? The N97 is already marketed at around 700$, why not just add a graphic accelerator, a xenon flash, and a new processor unit and add 100 or 200$ to the price? I want quality!!!! I am soooo tired of my stupid SE K850, but I don't know which phone to go for... I was about to buy the N96 or Samsung's i8510, then i heard about the N97, now I hear Nokia and HTC are already working on something new...

I just learned that I've been overpaying at $15/mo since I'm on a family plan. Changed the billing to $10/mo which IMO is a good deal. I'm just wondering at what limit does "unlimited" get their attention

It was unlocked and NAM 3G. I bought it last summer shortly after they had the launch party for it in the flagship stores (so July, maybe August?). Maybe I'm on a spaceship. Even at the launch at Nokia World, it was weird liknsmak. The press photos and product sheets only showed the white one, hands on pictures were of the white one, but all the demo videos (specifically, everybody playing with N97s at the dinner table LOL) were of the black one. And it's continued that way to this day, I don't get it. Oh well, it's only the black one that I want anyway so I'm happy it's not the other way around.

Yes, I would like to see where Symbian ends up once they start rolling out Symbian^3 and Symbian^4. Who knows, maybe they'll pull a fast one on me and I'll be amazed.

I have a 5800 right now to last me while I look over reviews and guides on how to use Android, BB and webOS, and maybe learn a thing or two about iPhone 3.0. As it stands, I only really wanted S60 because I have fond memories of it being one of the only OS to offer 3rd party apps (this is no longer the case, and it's actually bad at it compared to the rest) and because I had no previous hands on exposure to other OS. I also went with the 5800 because I really wanted to have Flash on my mobile. Turns out it was a waste, I hardly use Flash, and it's slow as hell. Nokia's browser may also be based on WebKit, but it is still slow compared to Android/iPhone/webOS browsers.

After USING Android, BB, iPhone, and last but not least S60, I now know that they all stack up quite equally to eachother, and S60 no longer has anything special about it. I need to find the one that's right for me, and S60 isn't it anymore. I've never felt so restricted in my life, using S60. I'm tellin ya guys, S60 is where PalmOS was. There really needs to be a major overhaul.

I can't believe some of u people went for 3 day shipping! It was only $5 more! I'm going crazy waiting for my phone right now, and its on the truck for delivery!

You should only have to change in your phone book which memory the phone accesses. Leave your contacts on your sim as a fail safe in case anything happens to the phone. If the contact isn't saved in the phone memory and/or is not reading the phone memory, then it does not read the contact name. Under options in your contacts, there should be a memory used option.

yea well that's kinda obvious... if you buy that then... well... anyways. What I was making reference to was what if it's actually a real N97, but not the final build but an early one instead?
