*OFFICIAL THREAD: Nokia N97

The tech specs show no wcdma 850? I thought I saw it someplace else. If 1900 is it then for 3g then somewhat limited eh? Does that work in Canada? AT+T's got alot of 850 down here. Not that it affects me being on t-mobile the "no sh:t" for 3g network.

I had assumed you were a logical person.

Anyway, obviously the iPod is outdated hence: iPhone.

Sure they have some rabid fanboys, and sitting outside the store for a whole night for a phone that couldn't even save calendar entries on the phone itself was ridiculous.

Buying the N97 for $1000 is right up there though. But at least it's just money. For some people $1000 is nothing. However camping outside a store for a whole night is tough for anybody rich or poor. Well unless they paid someone to wait all night.

As a first time Nokia soon to be owner heres my concerns...

The new Iphone is going to be amazing. I have my first day launch model that im still using even though the keyboard drives me crazy. BUT..the thing that works for Apple which from reading here that Nokia doesnt get is the smooth user experience. You dont have to love Itunes to understand that it works. You connect your phone, everything is there, contacts ect and you add and remove and its pretty painless...its easy, thats why everyones grandma has one..in nyc i mean :p

The Palm Pre is also going to Rock!...smooth smooth user experience, the kind you get from an operating system thats built from the ground up...and they are going to release other models..EOS..with the same OS for different carriers.

Then there are a ton of new Android devices coming out also..Tmobile and Att will both have new models...another OS built for modern cell phones..a bit clunky at the moment but it also offers a smooth ride.

I have my N97 preordered but i have to honestly tell you i am having second thoughts...I come here everyday and read all the posts in the Nokia section and there are so many posters ragging on that it becomes a turn off...YES, there are thousands on the Apple forum...but Im trying to wade my way through here and make the right choice for a new phone.
Anyway......not a rant or flame or bait..lol...just a concerned Nokia Noob.

my n97 nam did not come with a pouch. HOWEVER, it fits nice and snug in the $5 pouch for the iPhone 3g (I've been using this for my E71)

So there is no conversations version available? What i am like about conversations is that it opens up instantly and i can immediately start typing my reply. I dont want to have to open the text in the regular messaging app and then open a reply message. That process is nothing but slow and abysmal with every s60 phone, and the 5800 will be no different. So there's really no convo app?

Maybe Nokia is gonna forgo S60 3rd Edition FP3 and focus on S60 v5 and it's subsequent FPs; especially if they wanna keep with the Symbian Foundation roadmap. One thing Nokia wanted with S50 5th Edition was backwards compatibility with 3rd Edition apps.

UIQ had touch and non-touch variants(SE G900 Vs. Moto Z10) but I don't think it would be a great idea to make the same version of Symbian work for touch and non-touch devices but I see the point.

Just my $0.02...

@Gawpz

OK i'll bite please tell me why? surely you shouldn't need to add apps to a complete soloution so just what's so great about an app store then? Mosh was carp and virtually all S60 apps can be found on Handago should anyone want or need any apps to add to thier device. Sorry i just don't see how or why OVI Store is a USP and of any real benefit to anyone but Nokia. But hey that's just me and my opinion wants and needs. I have far more interest in the Omnia HD then i do a N97 and if my SU-8W works with it all the better. I'll lose a slide out QWERTY and gain a larger OLED screen and better processor to no contest for me.

Hey, I'm on Facebook and I shared that link on my profile - and all of a sudden people not interested in phones are msging me about the N97.

I think it's a smart way of viral advertising.

if i am 14 as you say that that would mean that i started using s60 when i was 5 or 6 which would be an accomplishment in itself. :buddies:

your definition of arguing is naime calling?

Go read exactly what you said. Processor. It's in there.

I think if you are able to comprehend written english it is clear that at least I believe that the hardware is capable of running more than 5 widgets from my actual experience with S60. So where does processor or memory creep come into question? So now you believe that in order for Nokia to support 2 pages of widgets instead of one they should increase the price of the phone? That should be the "N98 - the same as N97 with 2 pages of widgets?".

This to you is an "allegory" that makes sense in this context? If the hardware on the N97 should be a little more than half as powerful as the rest of the industry's flagship offerings for this year, I now need to be worried about feature creep on a $700 device? Is that what you are saying we should be worried about? So I am asking too much from this $700 flagship that I can get the same information than I get from S60v3 on a 2.4" screen than I get from a platform whose entire unique selling point are those information widgets?

So basically what you are trying to tell me is that I should be expecting to pay even more than $700 to get more functionality out of this than I get with a $300 S60v3 all because they should charge more to include extra space for the widgets that are the raison d'etre of this phone?

Are you trying to tell me this is an allegory that has any validity except to the most sympathetic of fanboys?

I'm being unreasonable and should expect to pay more for a sixth widget or rather the space to see the contacts, shortcuts, e-mail, and appointments that I get to already see and that we have been seeing on phones as old as the N80 with its 2.1" screen.

I'm asking for space you try to talk about creep this and creep that.

Again I think I should spell it out again since you are incredibly dense. One could just be the existing active standby and the other a space for those 5 widgets. Then it would just be like any other S60 with a page for 5 new widgets amongst the hundreds that said to be coming out. Again those widgets are the unique selling point of this phone. But I also want to see the stuff we've had for years in active standby. I don't want them to have to overlap. This is entirely possible on S60 with whatever hardware the N97 has. Again don't talk about feature creep. Unless you want to tell me the widgets themselves are the feature creep.

Exactly! The issue is not having or not having the time to do it. Happiness is in KNOWING THAT YOU CAN watch those movies in your phone whenever you feel like it.

Typing.

I'm guessing multitouch has something to do with the high WPMs some individuals can pull off on their phones as they can hit multiple letters quickly while as seen with the BB Storm typing has to go click by click.
