*OFFICIAL THREAD: Nokia N97

garmin runs on the 5800 but the issue is that you can't press any of the onscreen "soft key" buttons on the bottom left or right of the screen.

So unless you use a program to simulate those keys you are pretty much stuck. (you also have to simulate the number keys as well to enter addresses)

Basically Garmin needs to update their program to work with s60v5 and not hack up their s60v3 to "support touch".

the 5800 NAM's firmware is different than the EURO so there's gotta be something going on that screws up Garmin.

Here meaning where? Sweden? The Swedish currency has made a dive in the last 12 months. Of course it makes Swedish goods cheaper to buy but imports more expensive. The Swedish krona has fallen almost 50% with regards to the US dollar and over 30% with regards to the Euro in the last year. It was so bleeding stupid not to join the EMU (European Monetary Union). I am waiting for an inheritance from Sweden and it's getting worth less and less in dollars.

perhaps you didnt listen to the AAS audio unboxing podcast from yesterday. some very interesting and NEW news regarding the n97 and future firmware updates. in short, there's a VERY good chance that with the n97 nokia will most definitely 100% be releasing MAJOR firmware updates to n97 adding features. its something new that was never on any previous Nseries phones. so lets just wait and see before throwing the n97 in the same basket as all the previously crappy supported phones from nokia.

like i said it is not too late for them to change CPU, they do this all the time, they can change things as long as the production line has not started, especially since there are no FCC approval yet, among other certifications! heck, they even change things even if the production starts and the certifications are given!

I'm very interested in this phone as well. It looks like a nice melding of my favorite devices: E71 and the N810. Will be nice to have all the functionality in a single device. Of course I'm also waiting to see the next tablet device which should rock the N810. So many nice devices coming from Nokia.

Yeah if they had shrunk the letters enough that they all fit on the same screen I would have no qualms at all about the implementation. I still think the iPhone's method is superior but it still would've been 100% usable and not an issue at all.

Oh yea, that was about 5 years ago when I dished out 500$ plus to buy the Motorola Razr, worth every penny when I got it.

People were eyeing it like a new world wonder and all needed to touch it.

Expections changed, but those were the good old days when you have no performance expectations and style is all.

Ah come on guys don't pee on their parade of course they'll be able to Flash it to the Symbian Foundation Os as well as fit a new processor and 256MB Ram and all for $20 and done in 10 minutes at your local Nokia service centre. But it won't even need any of that as it's just going to be so stable and fast as soon as it's released i mean after all this is Nokia we are talking about of course it will rock. Is it June 2nd Yet?

I'm offically getting this phone as soon as it's out with a NAM. For the time being I'm going to live with the BOLD. No more changing phones until then.

Yup clear wrap.

I chose bodyguardz cause the install guy is local to me. I tried installing the invisible shield before on my Touch HD and failed twice. Its kinda tricky and I want that thing to be perfect with no bubbles and stuff. Also the invisible shield to me is too rubbery. Perfect for non touch screen phones as it provides a better grip but since the phone is touch, I want to be able to slide my finger smoothly across the screen and so after having my iTouch wrapped in the body-guardz I decided to keep using them.

I can't wait to get it back. I feel so lost without my phone. :( but now I'll be able to set it down with out worrying about little scratches.

They changed it up-the black version now has white/blue keys instead of the orange on the initial versions. It looks nicer IMO.

Proof? We have no idea about anything related to the launch.

And I don't believe the whole "hiding OMAP3 to keep it secret" argument. It's new, powerful technology; why wouldn't you boast it? Not to mention that there are multiple phones announced with it as people above me have said.

You just gotta love how threads like this can get sidetracked by idle conversation. Anyway, does anyone think that us NAM users will see a v31 firmware on the N97 later on or will it get put to pasture prematurely just like every other NAM model?
