*OFFICIAL THREAD: Nokia N97

Thank you cyberpigg! :2thumbs:

Canceled both my orders that were $699.

Will be buying with ms cashback on eBay.

Expecting the eBay price to be around $600 by July and will use 8% MS Cashback and get it under $550.

Nobody's convincing you to buy anything. Buy what you want.

But just look at an iPod touch to get some exposure to a modern touch interface. Then after that understand that the rest of the industry is learning from it - each at their own pace. So you see by next year WinMo7 will present the culmination of its learning from it. Android also will present their product later this year as will Palm. Nokia presents the N97. So just take a more critical look and see what you need. The iPhone is not everyone's answer but it sure does open your eyes.

Also everyone else were smart and didn't directly copy the iPhone buttonless paradigm. They went with what they knew better. I think they will all do a far better job of taking the best of what they learned and applying it to their situation.

But what do I know?

E71
- Poor camera (yeah, I know it's not N series)
- lacks of 3.5mm audio jack
- smaller screen resolution (I hate scrolling)

E75
- Poor camera (yeah, not N series)
- smaller screen resolution (again, hate scrolling)
- both top and bottom halves feels like it's bouncing up and down when closed

I am wierd and picky. LOL

Wait, when the cpu spec first was released we all bashed it and complained. But then you have to move on. It seems like some people in this thread want everyone to continually bash the hardware spec over and over forever. What else are we supposed to do? Yes its a weak spec. But for many people its still good enough to buy this phone. Afterall we've been using this hardware for a few years now in the other models. Now its in qwerty form factor with bigger screen, so people wanna buy it. I don't see any problem with that. And i feel the price will drop particularly well rather soon after release, which makes it a pretty good buy to be honest.

So should we all make a "the n97 hardware cpu sucks" signature so it shows up as default with each post? Seems like thats what the guys who are let down wanna hear over and over.

You ordered from NokiaUSA, right? I don't know if this is gonna happen again but TheNokiaBlog was saying that in the case of the 5800XM, the people who pre-ordered with NokiaUSA got their phones a month after those who pre-ordered somewhere else.

I hope it doesn't happen this time.

wooow could this be real??!

Trying to go back to T9 only after using my E90 for long practically made me ri my hair out in agony typing URLs and email addresses, E71>N85

And the Amazon homescreen widget is actually cutoff by the homescreen widget below it. And the homescreen widget is nothing more than a link to actual Amazon wrt app.

C'mon Nokia, this homscreen widget idea has a lot of potential, don't screw it up (i.e. multiple screens of widgets, some limited interactivity would be nice, etc)

Grey one was initially shipping alongside a white E71-1. White E71-2 was a bit late.
Hopefully N97 will be launched in NAM in both colours simultaneously.

I'm not sure the N97 is for me. I'm skeptical at this point about s60v5 and where it's going. I have a 5800 right now, and I'm actually not a huge fan of it. I do like s60, but you have to do so much to get what you want out of it. I regret getting my sister a 5800; she'll never figure out how to install things on her own to get full use out of it. I should have gotten her a G1 instead. Sigh.

Android is easier to use, no doubt. Myself, I'm missing the experience that I had when I had a BlackBerry Pearl. I've been eyeing the E55, but there isn't much talk about it anymore, and I saw low RAM available after startup. I really love SureType and anything similar, it's the best way to type on a mobile phone, better than a full qwerty IMO.

If I really want the n97, I'm thinking about just waiting for the price to drop. It's already down to 600 on amazon and it's not even out yet. I expect it to reach the 500 dollar price tag soon after its release. And well... even then, is 300 dollars worth bigger scree/32GB/5MP camera from the 5800? Hmm.

Even more, I want to see where Symbian Foundation is going. I just got the freaking 5800, I can handle using this thing for at least another year. Once I've milked it for what it's worth, hopefully Symbian^3 is out, and I can choose a handset that's running something like that. If it's looking grim, I can always switch to Android, which is the runner-up right now my list of OS behind S60 (the gap is getting smaller!).
