The other issue is, WM, which is just another reason the OmniaHD is already making some serious waves. I wouldn't come into this thread and throw the specs of the TouchHD around to show that it's better than the N97 because we all know how much of a pain it is compared to S60. But we're talking about a phone that has arguably BETTER hardware than the TouchHD and it's running the same software as the N97 for LESS money.
 
I've been using Nokia for long enough to know that they have a philosophical approach to privacy issues.

This is the reason why a new SMS NEVER shows the content of the message. It merely says "new SMS" or something like that. I have no problem with that approach and I think it makes sense. Nokia notifications never show content. Again I don't disagree with that.

However, you need a privacy screen not a problem. Why can't you just swipe down to get that? Isn't that even easier and faster to do than swiping sideways? Or if they must have you swiping to the side for privacy, then what happened to swiping down or up for other widget screens?

The solution is really that simple. It would add that much value to this whole push for widgets.

You speak of performance issues with having:

Everything active standby has had since the N80 and 5 widgets.

Does that make any sense? We've had all that going on for 4 years now + people have Nokia messaging and MFE installed.

You cite performance issues and then defend the choice of the wimpy processor.

See I don't really care about the processor choice per se. If it works it works. But for $700? It has a lower end processor compared to anything the competition would dare release and call the FLAGSHIP in 2009. So if they sell it for $400 and it works then it's all good. But trying to get $700 for this is crazy. It is a mid-end phone pretending to be high end.

I can't really say much if the Nokia 2009 Flagship uses a 3 year old internal platform. That's their definition of Flagship I suppose, but for them to actually try to charge N95 prices for a lesser phone 3 years later is just funny. What's even funnier is that people want to pay that much for it.

But anyway, I think we will have a few more "price mistake" opportunities before the launch and after launch it will quickly settle into the $400 range it belongs. At that price I guess it is a worthy competitor for certain user profiles. Those who missed out on the N95.
 
More ram would also pave the way to a browser that supports tabs too...

That is one thing I really want on a mobile device. S60 currently has no way of doing this, apple has pages but they're dumb because only one can be open at once, and the pre has true tabs with its cards multitasking but there's too many things about the hardware I don't like, especially the carrier.
 
OMG! do you see the widgit stuff??? This phone is gonna be sick. If Apoc is wrong, we should all fly to, romania? and whip him up for getting us all jacked up.
 
1. Yeah, mine takes a little while to come on after unlocking apparently.

2. A lot of people.. who uses SIP/VoIP or whatever it's called? I don't, doesn't mean a ton of people don't use it. I don't use podcasting either, but a similar ton of people probably use it.

3. Mail for Exchange for Microsoft Exchange push e-mail support.

4. Yeah the web browser is chunky and slows down really easily. Lots of clipping with the navigation bar and sidebar in and out randomly.

5. Yeah widgets keep my net access going 24/7 WTF. I long press end to terminate the connection but it pops back up again within 2 seconds.. never turning off. I'm surprised my battery life is OK at all.
 
Indeed. But if I had a privacy screen on my E71, no one would see the corresponding inbox. Y'know what, we could do this all day LOL.

I have a feeling that when we all get our N97s, we won't be worrying about having a 2nd screen for widgets. I still kinda wonder what is really that useful that I need it there on my home screen every time I look at my phone.
 
Plus if you look at the images their N97 is Black with Orange color QWERTY.
This prototype was discontinued a while ago, the latest Black prototypes available for more than a month now and the final units are waring Blue keys.
 
I think most of us e71 owners have been spoiled..haha.

But ya i'm definitely a bit worried, but i think i can make the adjustment to the phone. Afterall, it's not that big in comparison to all the other qwerty-slide touch phones. I've held my friend's G1 and it feels fine in the pocket.
 
Do you guys realize that we have discussed this phone in this thread pretty much every single day since it was announced? Is it June yet?
 
First of all, we're not in Asia, and second, handwriting recognition is supported on the i8910 too.



The claimed 5.5 hours of video playback came from GSMarena's review of the device, not the spec sheet.

And again, it's a 10.4% increase in screen size.
 
The styli are generally heavily preferred. I'm guessing if a person was very fond of writing things into fogged-up glass, things would be different, but that is usually not the case.
 
The widgets will NEVER be on a phone that came out prior to the N97. That is a fact... Nokia said it themselves, the N97 will just be the beginning of a new era... That's another reason why i want it so bad, I wanna have my hands on it so I can get used to it, so I'll be prepared for the future, hehe.
