*OFFICIAL THREAD: Nokia N97

I'm surprised though, if the retail version really finished this early shouldn't review phones have been out by now and such? We've barely heard anything and there's 2 weeks left.
 
I've been gone from this forum for a year or so and I come back to see a few new cranks such as this FFR..its the way of the world tho. SR1329 is another that I never saw a couple years ago that is also pretty annoying
 
Ah this phone looks wonderful. I just wished that it didn't cost so much or else I would have pre-ordered it when it was available. Also, I wish that T-Mobile 3G bands worked on it as well.

For the life of me I cannot get T9 to work on my N95-4
Everytime i type anything sensible like "who" "what" "where" it comes up with this gibberish

I have no idea how to enter words in to T9 dictionary.
I got some kind of tip about using the spelling key to enter words into the database from nokia tips but please someone tell me where this spelling key is and how do i know when I've entered a word into the database? That T9 turns everything i type into crap, i can't complete any word ...ANY no matter how simple. How can I delete that crap from the database.
 
I'm not sure if anybody has mentioned this but the N97 doesn't seem functional with Garmin Mobile XT 5.00.40. There are keys in the app that aren't accessible through the touchscreen or keys. Can anyone else confirm this?

Also, anyone know how to setup the N97 with T-Mobile T-Zones?
 
there's some excellent tutorials over at allaboutsymbian for specifically freeing up C drive memory on the 5800, and it should apply to the n97 as well. for some reason these s60v5 devices seem to use up more memory than previous Nseries devices. not sure why. but Steve's tutorial sure did work for me. i didnt go as far as his last step of backing up the phone and resetting. i skipped that, but it was still good enough.

i frequently delete my cache folder with Y browser. it fills up so quick. i also reset google maps. that gave me 10MB free memory back. etc etc.
 
This was my thinking process while I was making my purchase decision:

I really wanted to get the N97 over the 5800, but I didn't want to spend $699.00 for a phone. That's just too much money for me. So I decided to get the 5800 instead from AMAZON for $339.99. I thought that I was getting a bargain at AMAZON up until I saw the thread that said that you can buy the N97 for $454.35 and the 5800 for $255.51. Originally, I was thinking about buying only the 5800, but the more and more that I was thinking about this, the more and more I wanted to buy the N97. I just received my 5800 for AMAZON earlier this afternoon and I am going to send it back to them for a full refund ASAP.
I thought that the NOKIA USA.com deal was too good to be true. I never knew that something like this could happen out of the blue with the N97 coming down this low in price to $454.35 "before" it is even released to the public. I thought that something like this usually happens 2 to 3 years after the phone is released when the original phone becomes obsolete and when a newer model comes out on the market. I had a feeling that this type of deal was not going to happen anytime soon again so I decided to jump on the $454.35 discount deal on the N97. Then I gave this even more thought. The more and more that I wanted to own the N97, the more and more I also wanted to own the 5800 as a "backup" phone. I figured that the 5800 is going to be used as a secondary backup phone for when I don't want to use my Samsung Eternity and that the N97 was going to be my "holy grail" phone that I would use sparingly only when I need to. I figured that the hugely discounted "fire sale" price of $255.51 for the 5800 was "peanuts" when compared to the AMAZON price of $399.99, so I decided to jump on the deal and buy the 8500 too.
When I called NOKIA USA to check my order status earlier today, the customer service rep over the phone told me that I was very lucky and that I basically got a free phone by purchasing the 5800 and the N97 both at the same time. My total purchase amounted to $707.00 without the shipping and tax, so if you really think about it, it's like I'm getting the N97 for $699 and at the same time getting the 5800 for absolutely free. I feel like I bought one phone and then got another one for free. I'm very happy and also very excited with my purchase decision and I'm looking forward to getting the 5800 and the N97 very soon. :clapping: :2thumbs:
 
Um, I don't think he was refering to X11.
But BSD is Unix, as Ubuntu is to Linux.
Quartz is a GUI layer, not BSD only - Quartz is object-oriented based I think. K I think we should be in PM for this one guys hehe.

So Am I the only one already beginning to save for this N97 beast?!
 
As I said in my probably-too-long post, that's not the point. 8mp have already penetrated the US and other countries already. By the time Nokia's comes out, everyone else's will have matured and Nokia will be playing catch up. In fact, in the camera software department and video recording, they are already.

And as a newcomer to S60, what features do you think the N97 will have that A) is unique to the platform and B) customers really want?

I'll say it again: It's not about the megapixels.
 
Interesting group of ages...so far I'd say 20's and 30's predominate. Says a lot about how one would take the N97...being that age, makes one more critical of the tech items and allows one to see the tiny stuff such as the keypads and normal fonts in the browser. I guess I'm the oldster here at 57..but maybe others of my age don't want to admit it!
 
Well the N97 doesn't come out for at least another couple of months so soak up your time with the flagship device...while it lasts muahhahahahahahahahaahahahahahahaha
