*OFFICIAL THREAD: Nokia N97

"Value" for the N97 is not in it's specs.

The guts of the N97 is as outdated as it can be.

The true value for the N97 and other Nokia devices is in the services that Nokia and other developers are willing to make.

Nokia spent millions to buy off GPS services, create Ovi, Comes with Music, N-Gage, Symbian Foundation.. those are the true value you get with a Nokia device.

A smartphone is not smart if there's no software and services supporting it.

a 1000Mhz chip in a phone does nothing if there's no good software or games for it to process.

I'm more excite on N97 then any other device because of the multiple input method. The touch interface, qwerty, GPS, motion sensor, front camera, mic and D-pad means a lot of potential software to use with those inputs.

So is the resistive touch screen a deal killer like that article claims? I have to admit after playing with an Iphone, the responsiveness of the touch screen is incredible

hmmm well it shouldnt matter if you have dupes on phone and sim card together, its just having dupes on one of the other. like having john and john1 on the phone memory would give this problem. but having john on phone and john on sim would not.

i use all s60 phones too. the only thing i can think is if at some point recently you copied to the sim card, or did copy all perhaps, or wiped the sim and recopied, maybe it happened.

but you know the way to truly find the problem right? you delete the contact in question from your sim and phone memory. then have him call. if another name mysteriously pops up then thats your dupe. if not, then resave that number as a new contact and try again.

It's very similar, just optimized for touch. They've also implemented some cool features like the customizable standby screen (Active Standby on crack by the looks of it). They have a compatibility mode for S60v3 apps as well (some of them anyway)

Great news!! I know for sure that the European N97 will be available by mid June but according with that info, it looks like the NAM model will follow very shortly after, even possible to release within 1-2 weeks after the EU model in June...
Looks like Nokia finally getting serious in American market. :clapping:

Are you one of those folks who would rather have a 3.06GHz Pentium 4 over a 2.25GHz Core 2? (Bad analogy, I know, as the Core 2 executes instructions more efficiently)

It isn't about clock speed, it's about how the finished product performs. If the slower CPU is adequate it doesn't matter what the paper specs are. I for one would rather have the extra battery life. Presuming, of course, that the performance is adequate.

I don't know if it's the same as the N95, I've never owned a N95, but I read froma blog that
"The N97 is natively fully compatible with the SIP protocols and you can even use videoconference SIP."

I used to worry about that but now I just make changes as I wish and let the bill work its way out..the billing systems seem to just work better than in the past and except for maybe a couple bucks one way or the other its all good

The only reason I even own an iPhone was because I was due for an upgrade with AT&T. My company is in bed with AT&T, so I also get an additional 20% line equipment discount on all my purchases.

So for $180.00, getting an iPhone was the best choice at the time. I wanted to see what the hype was all about. LOL...I didn't buy the iPhone for its features. I know the iPhone has many, unforgivable shortcomings, but considering AT&T's current line-up of handsets, it was the best deal. Hell, I could sell it & easily make almost $400.00. It just sits in it's box in my drawer anyway.

You are 100% right as well. People pay through the nose for the latest Nokia to come out, so I can see how Nokia believes that their build quality is not a problem.

Bottom line is I just want to see a N series built from metal like the N91, or the build of an 8XXX series. Even if it adds 20 grams to the weight, I don't think too many would care.

Sure, except it's not the end of summer yet. And N97 will (multiple) features that those phones won't.

How big of a difference do you personally think there will be, quality wise, between the 8mp and 5mp in the N97?
