*OFFICIAL THREAD: Nokia N97

Yes I know, I did mention Mimo. I am aware that there needs to be space between those antennae to use MIMO effectively.

The Intel Wi-Fi link 5300 uses a 3x3 array.

You can still get on an N-network without using MIMO right? The only benefit being the removal of devices running in wireless G on your network. The device can't even fully use a good performing wireless G solution.

For all I know and care they might not even implement Wireless N even though the chip can support it. It doesn't really matter all that much at the end of the day.

That info is: http://www.apple.com/iphone/features/wireless.html

Read the last paragraph.

Yeah, I'm going to wait for the unboxing video so I know exactly what all is coming with the device.

Also on amazon, the white n97 says it comes with full US warranty but the black is just full warranty.... typo? or what

I have an N810 and the interface would need a lot of work to function as a phone. I have posted this a couple of times but OS2008 is a confused user interface where it's not sure if it wants to be finger friendly or require a stylus. The parts that are finger friendly have areas that are way too large with scroll bars twice the size that they need to be. The overall responsiveness of the UI is great and the resistive touch screen really does work well. But I think Nokia could do a lot better with the interface for 2009.

Alright now we are talking, AAS actually mentions that the hinge is made from metal. Everyone esle was originally claiming that it was plastic.
I am officially drooling after that quick review- however that e90 brought back memories (seeing them side by side).

It also adds insult to injury if Nokia is really planning to build devices in the future with capacitive as a replacement to resistive, or worse, re-release the 5800XM and N97 with capacitive screen versions as rumored.

Depends if you want to stick with the 30$/month iPhone data. With ANY other phone (even their smartphones) you can cancel the smartphone data package after the first billing cycle. After that, put your SIM into an ATT dumbphone and trick ATT into recognizing the dumbphone as your new phone and dropping down to the $15 dumbphone package when switching into the N97. This is not an option with any iPhone. You are shoehorned into the $30/mo iPhone data package for two years, which can be a big deal.

It's only worth it if you can make a profit greater than $360 ($15 more for the iPhone plan compared to the dumbphone package times 24 months). This means selling an 8GB for $460, the 16GB 3GS for $560, or the 32GB 3GS for $660 as a bare minimum just to break even and make up for what you lose in the two years. Your flipping profit in actuality would probably be far greater by getting a refurb Fuze ($0 activated with data, drop the $30 data package after the first cycle) and selling it for around $300 (you'd have to sell the iPhones for $760, $860, and $960 respectively to make the same net profit).

This is assuming you want $15 data!

This is the question I've been always asking myself... I know of the really good reputation of the E71 and N85, but if I am myself a HUGE media hound, should I stay away from those? I don't use email on my mobiles at all.

You cannot go wrong with the screen, speakers & music quality and loud speakers during the call. However touch experience is pretty bad & the camera is worse than E71.

They list two thicknesses, one is the thickness across the entire device (15.9mm) and the other is the highest point which is around the camera lens (18.3mm).

No they don't. People hack the **** out of their Nokias. Ask Tom Tom.

Maybe coming up a better licensing scheme than the terribly restrictive "symbian signed" would help.

But really as those morons at the RIAA figured out recently convenience is what prevents piracy more than anything. If you can get a DRM free track for $0.89 in a matter of minutes, many are just going to stick with that and not risk viruses, getting caught etc.

So if anyone at Nokia had a brain they would know that a nice convenient place to get software at reasonable prices would turn this fail ship around.

So they came out with OVI store - store that is so horrid to use that it is easier to visit the MART. I bet anything right now that if I named a piece of software that it would be easier and faster to locate in the MART then it is to locate in the OVI store.

So that store plus newer licensing technology would have worked, but it was implemented by idiots: Nokia.

Can you imagine if I ever bought software from Nokia again, and the number of times these phones need a hard reset. They would literally tell me to rebuy all my software every month. Those are the sorts of clowns that run that joint.

does anyone know what processor is inside this thing yet, its this or the n86 for me, if the n86 camera doesnt live up to its hype then the 3.5inch screen is the way to go for me. :buddies:
