Looks like they are hiding something. Looks a lot like they might have chosen a stealth approach this time. Might actually be decent to excellent hardware. If it is OMAP 3 I will buy it 100%.
 
Hell look at the press conference announcing 3.0, I wondered why they didn't hold a parade to announce the features that even POS Samsung phones have.
 
Not the case. You can use free Wayfinder for mapping but you don't get turn-by-turn directions unless you buy a subscription to Wayfinder. This is exactly the same as how Nokia Maps works. You can also use Maemo Mapper which allows you to stream maps similar to the way Google Maps works (requires data connection) and you can even use Google's map repositories.

For the next gen tablet I sincerely hope they stop messing with Wayfinder and port Nokia Maps over to Maemo. The ability to use this with Maps on Ovi to transfer landmarks and routes will really improve the tablet.

my company uses LEAP for wireless, so i go to destinations in connectivity and set up the password and everything

how do i then say, connect to it. i can't seem to find the command

lol you don't follow conversations very well. I don't like or dislike your thoughts, though they're certainly entertaining to pick apart. Maybe you just don't express yourself well.

I already specifically said I don't know how many notifications it can handle. I asked if you did either, but you never responded.

I didn't talk about "processor creep" I talked about 'feature' creep. Maybe you should learn to quote better, so you could stay on the conversation.

The "lack" of 3G is debatable depending on your location. I agree that I wouldn't want to gamble with a phone that only has one of the two 3G bands, but I know from personal experience that UMTS 1900 is largely used in both Atlanta and Chicago and it works just like a phone with 850 out here.



This is going to be a typical Nokia launch. They claimed it will be out in the first half of 09, so they're going to do everything they can to make sure the first production units ship out the day before the 3rd quarter starts. That puts the date for decent availability and pricing somewhere between the middle of July to the end and then it's completely up to them when they want to ship the NAM version. As long as they still have the productions units out before the first half of the year is over, they've made their deadline.

And all of that is another reason I'm springing for the OmniaHD instead. The 8gb is starting to become available now for less than the N97 preorder, and by the time the N97 is out in full swing, we'll have seen a price drop and much wider availability on the OmniaHD.
 
Well, let's make this clear. Freescale to OMAP 3430 for sure isn't socket compatible. The only possible change I believe that could happen in the time frame we are looking at is maybe a Freescale CPU clocked at 428 or 528MHz. OMAP3 just isn't in the cards for this phone. What changed between N95 working prototypes and the released N95? Very little and certainly nothing close to a CPU change. They took easily 4+ months from working prototype to release.
 
Ok I think I am starting to like this phone. Now I have to convince the future wife to get it. I kinda already started warming her up to the idea...lol.
 
It's going to be marketed as a MID so don't think of it as them trumping their own flagship. The N97 and Nokia's MIDs have very different target audiences...especially since this device is HUGE (think TouchHD with a slide-out QWERTY) and weighs 30g more than the N97.
 
yeah i did. bye bye N96. I've read a few posts around the web about ppl cancelling their N96 orders to wait for this phone. don't know how widespread it'll affect and how it'll affect N96 sales for Q4. but i do like the bruce lee packaging.
 
Just a small clarification. Apple didn't make FCP. Like most of their software apps, they bought it, then further developed it (and took part of Adobe's Premiere development team). Apple has been very good at finding already developed products in a market they want to pursue (both software and hardware) and then taking them, renaming, further developing and integrating them into their product line. There aren't many apps that they have developed from scratch.
 
Woke up thinking on something I'm not sure I missed: in all the videos, pics, etc, the screeen changes to landscape when the keypad is opened and changes back to portrait when closed...But I've also seen it in landscape when the keypad is closed..is there some kind of setting allowing this?
 
My kid is due Thursday. Before that would be nice. Sure, I'll have the 1080 Handycam there, but it'd be nice to put the N97 through it's paces. Ship tomorrow and arrive Wednesday?
