*OFFICIAL THREAD: Nokia N97

Its not a rumor, vodafone has already literature on it. It should be distributed very soon now.

I just want the weight on the Mini N97.

From what I understand, Skype will be on a future firmware upgrade. It DOES have SIP functions, but no option for making an internet call.

And although I do hope it ships today..I'll believe it when I see my card charge posted..

The X1 was a big disappointment and you're right, it doesn't take much to kill it. But still, this looks targeted at that. Similar UI and form factor.

Both have the same OS. 5800 has 3MP cam vs N97 has 5MP camera. Screen 3.2 inches vs 3.5 in N97. Home screen on N97 is customizable, where as in 5800 you can't. Of course N97 has physical QWERTY keyboard.

I like the idea of quicker firmware updates, but I was wondering how much of an effect there would be on AT&T data there would be. Should this be a deal-breaker for me? I currently do not have a data plan, but plan on getting one in the future.

Yup and some have better camera's. IDK but I tested two 5800's and one had better color in the pics. One had a little gap on top right/ side, and the other doesn't really. The only problem Im having on mine is that sometimes the mini-qwerty doesnt work even when you change the mode, so I have to restart the phone in order to get it to work.

While it might sound silly to some Nokia could take communicators out of the E series and take it back to 9xxx. Feels just that E series makes some restrictions to communicator line.

While E90 is good device and i still like it while it's more of a work phone for me i would wan't it to be something special like they where before. Thought that might not be possible anymore as communicator line is using S60 now days.

i just saw a vdo of n97 in gsmarena. the UI looked so furnished. its mindblowing. i will wait to see vdo reviews when ppl will get their 5800s. if the UI is same as n97 then i will definitely go for 5800 and wait for n97. lets see what UI they put in 5800.

Search is the savior. Contact search on the E71 saves your life.

If there is even one search widget that within 2 seconds of typing the first 3 letters of a name pulls up the contact and offers me to:

send e-mail
send sms
call
make calendar appointment
write note regarding
write to-do regarding

Then I would be a happy camper.

One thing about the S60v5 contacts app is that you can type the first letter of a person's name and then it removes "keys" from the keypad such that oly possible combinations remain. So if you only have "Sam" in your contacts. Then if you hit "S" then only "A" will show up as a choice.

It is pretty clever, but suffers in implementation (what's new?) in that there are 2 "pages" of initial letters. It limits the speed with which you can type on it. But it's not a bad solution. One of the few places where I feel they applied some thought to a problem.

Not at all. I'm rocking an outdated n95 to which I have no problems with as I know it's outdated but for right now it does the job. The issue is that when the n95 was released years ago it was new, unique and the king of feature phones.

Fast forward to present day... this thread is littered with praise over a glorified n95 with large touch screen and qwerty.

Well its not a big deal but once i thought about how much iphones sell for it comes out to the price of an n97 so i thought why not? Of course i could just buy the n97 outright too. But its very common for people to use their upgrade profit for an unlocked phone. Why should i let my free contract go to waste when i can use it for something good?

Anybody ordered from Adorama and heard any news?
I talked to a rep a few days ago and he sad that his system shows a date of July 28! That's crazy.

Yeah I guess Federal Marshalls and cell phones have a lot to do with each other.

I simply state my thoughts on a phone, if you don't like it don't read it.

I think if you actually read my post it is very clearly stated and even repeated that the likelihood that the hardware is a limitation is very small considering the amount of multitasking the OS can currently do. Maybe I needed to restate it for you. Don't say something stupid that I need to reiterate it again.

As for software optimization, you are trying tell me that this device can't handle more than 5 notifications at once? So in the years they spent developing this (and they've been talking about these ****ing widgets for over a year now) they were not able to support more than 5?

What's the point of an allegory for processor creep? Is this some lesson in hardware? Did you come across a revelation that hardware gets better over time if it needs to. The hardware has had 128MB RAM for over 3 years boy. You didn't know that because you have zero experience with Nokia. So maybe 192MB or 256MB isn't so outrageous this year if they really needed it to power more than 5 widgets. I don't care what it has as long as it can handle what it needs to. In the first place I don't believe that hardware is really an issue to run more than 5 of these widgets/notifications with graphics. Again if they had a problem with 10 notifications running live they could have made only 5 or so live and the other 5 or so phone applications. Did you read that the first time I said it, or do you just like to use big words like "allegory"? I am just saying they need more space than one page gives in order to give us more relevant information than active standby already does.

Also playing around with something means nothing, you haven't actually owned S60 in your life, nor used it. All of a sudden you are cheerleader fanboy for a S60 phone nobody has really even seen, including you. All this is based on? Don't say experience. You are a dumb fanboy all of a sudden who likes to say the word "creep" a lot.
