*OFFICIAL THREAD: Nokia N97

Don't worry, my review is coming. I'm gonna borrow JP's review formula and might even ask his input (as long as he doesn't want to borrow my N97 in return LOL)

It goes again their history, but fine. If I'm still interested in Symbian by the time Nokia works its magic (or not), I'll be sure to voice my loving approval (or seething hatred).

i am really waiting for this phone.... i kinda want the blackberry 8900 unlocked but i hope if the touch screen is better then the 5800 i will pick this one up for sure.... just hope nokia doesnt have a egg and mess up with the release date...

Hey thanks for that, but keep in mind that garmin doesn't work on the NAM 5800. It works on the euro version though so its weird. Hopefully it'll be supported on the N97.

It ends here. I don't want to have everyone lace their posts with disdain about how they could have done better. With luck, what's needed to be said has already been said and the backlash from Nokia simply announcing the weaker hardware will have opened their eyes a bit. Or at the very least, they'll read through this thread and see that there obviously is a demand for better hardware, at least from a couple people.

I have to agree, i am one who really doesnt care for the 5800 at all, the potential is there but the responsiveness of the screen just does me in.
I love how the web looks on it better than the iphone(because of the flash and higher resolution), But the browsing experience just ruins it for me i rather browse on my n85 than the 5800 because it just responds so much better.
I do think the n97 will be better in certain areas plus the dpad will hep it tremendously, at least i hope so in that sense its better than the 5800, as for 700.00 no phone out is worth it, the iphone isnt, the fuze which i had,the bold isnt.
The thing with nokia is that there ui is lagging but those of us that know it also know its probably the most feature rich phone out there, we can say the 5mp is overrated but its 100 times nicer than the bolds camera and the iphones when we compare it to cellphones and not stand alone cameras.
Why do we always compare nokia features to stand alones but dont compare the iphone to a laptop which destroys it, or a bold to email on my pc or mac which it destroys the bold.

I mean its like this if i want excellent email i get a bb, if i want the best browsing experience and touch ui i get the iphone(or e90 on wifi) if i want a better camera decent gaming and better overall media features than most phones out there i get a nseries, all these devices lack in one area or another THATS JUST THE BOTTOM LINE and really sr1329 this is a serious question on the overall if you had to pick 1 device to do everything i mean everything what would be your device?
I am really curious. :buddies:

If they can implement it in the browser I hope they'll consider implementing it in the menus. It works so much better than their current method for scrolling down lists and it would get rid of the singletap doubletap problem.

Pick the N97. At least for those two factors camera and MMS is way way ahead.
5Megapixels camera, not any camera but with Carl Zeiss lenses, dual led flash, video recording TV out. Advanced MMS and any other GSM standard like Video Call (even thought it is not supported in US yet) is available to Nokia devices for years now.

I am not sure what you mean by buggy firmware but whatever your refer to Nokia is well known for firmware updates that dramatically illuminates bugs and improve performance.

Widget will be available from Ovi Store, along with other places.
Like any other application, some of them will be free while other may require a payment.

I wouldn't categorically refuse to buy an upgraded N97 later on. It's more than reasonable that 128MB will be enough, especially when the new low memory API is considered. More is NEVER bad. That said, I wouldn't sign up point blank for an upgrade N97, either... but if an N97-2 can satisfy specwhores and elitists, why shouldn't nokia tailor a model for them?

I would expect an N98 or n99 to have a different form factor and can't see a reason why N97 can't coexist with other models (perhaps minus the QWERTY or back to a numpad slider, but retaining 3.5 or bigger touchscreen, etc).

If Nokia can figure out how to do an 8-12 megapixel beast with xenon flash, double or quadruple the 128MB of RAM and retain the N97 form factor, why shouldn't they call it an N97-2, for example? I would most definitely think that would be worthy of consideration, regardless of the N97-1 that I want now. ;)
