*OFFICIAL THREAD: Nokia N70

What are the new improvements, if any, are in the new N70 firmware?

This is the first thing I noticed after upgrading with the Nokia software manager:

The Music Player doesn't turn off anymore if you press the Red (hang up) dial. Instead, it "minimizes" in the Active Standby with the name of the song and volume control. Pretty nice upgrade

Why is this phone STILL $400 on ebay? .... I've been waiting for months to upgrade from the 6682, but for $100 or so more I could get a MUCH better N73.

I just found out that when updating to 3G, you should not only have your configuration settings downloaded via sms, but also run your phone on DUAL MODE/UMTS.

This adjustment was a bit tricky to find.

Menu > Tools > Settings > Network > Network Mode > Dual Mode

And then, Manual Selection should be used.

A 3G logo should appear to replace the network signal bar.

I'm pretty sure you're wrong about that. When I flashed my E70 and N80, there was no change in available memory. That's like running Windows ME and XP, at the same time. Flashing doesn't work like that. The first half of the process is erasing everything on the phone before it programs the new firmware onto it.

Well then what's stopping you from getting the N73? $400 is pretty fair for these phones. Keep in mind the N73 has the notorious lagging text message issue like all other 3rd Edition devices and much less RAM than the N70, making multitasking near impossible while browsing.

Say, where do you buy you're phones from the Philippines? I heard it's kinda sketchy to buy phones there such as phones turning out to be fakes but look authentic. Is that true?

Testing N70:

(took this pic to show the atual size of the book text)

Testing N70's synthetic macro mode (2 inch distance from the book page) using the front camera.

Well, it's not really macro mode, but that's the closest thing that N70 can get to it.

My N70 is a little different being an N70 RM-99; I have a 1 GB card in my N70 and it has not slowed the phone down in comparison to the 512Mb, even with it 80% full of applications & MP3`s, also have a set of i.Tech Blueband phone which work well (A2DP with Blueplayer). So far never locked up or given me any problems. Battery life is excellent for a smart phone, maybe that?s due to the omission of 3G. Multitasking is effortless once you workout how to work with Symbian.
