*OFFICIAL THREAD: Nokia E71

yeah that's it. its hard to see the part of the screen near the left where the shadow is, but i think i can clearly see 6 standby icons. which means that the screen (and the whole device) is smaller then i first thought and is still at 320x240 resolution. really this is the size of one of the new black berries. what a perfect size as its only 10 mm thin!

How did you resolve this? I'm curious because I've not used an S60 phone for years (last & Only was the 6620) - and never ran into this with 2nd Edition. I'm going to be on the LONG end of the learning curve this time around. I'll be pissed if you all jump ship onto Andriod or something at end of year, leaving me digging through a swamp of threads looking for a resolution that I cannot find because a thread is long gone & deleted off the server.

EDIT: found the resolution so this is a bookmark - pls ignore.

^Yea, the whole idea is to be able to do it from the main screen, just like Blackberries (Love that feature). Hopefully a current E71 owner will have an answer.

If the pics are real, it appears the screen size is the same as its predecessor... I am more concerned on the qwerty keypad. It looks too cramp - I already find my e61i's keys too small for my fingers.

Prom1, I own a small company..... we are a technical consulting company, provide IT services to small business and have a data center that hosts many of our clients servers. We have a niche in the IBM iSeries world, have about a dozen in our data center as well as the run of the mill Wintel servers as well. All of my techies prefer their WM devices and that is OK. I have a very technical background and run the BES integrated to our exchange server. Its easy to admin a BES for one. Everyone else uses active sync. My main requirement is to be able to telnet to the iSeries boxes in my data center. Some have public address, many do not. I have a telnet 5250 app my BB that allows me access to every server via the BES connection. I can not do this as well on my S60 devices. The lack of a decent VPN and a decent telnet app that supports the 5250 data stream makes it not as easy to support my clients. Having a device in my pocket that allowed me to manage routine issues from anywhere has been a Godsend for me. Our data center is a lights out operation and totally monitored for everything remotely. I can get a text message with an alert for almost anything and need to be able to solve most problems if I am not in the data center. All my device have given me freedom, but my BB has really allowed me the freedom to be out of the office as much as I need to.

after reading so many good reviews..finally bought one and have already played with it for a couple of days...coming from blackberry curve experience, push mail and one hand operation are deal breakers for me...I am pleasantly surprised when i hold the real thing..it is really very ergonomic to hold...long and slim, metallic casing looks really classy, it passed my one-hand operation test easily..and the push mail by mail for exchange...not up to blackberry's standard and ease..but it is very good and passed my test too..my curve has been collecting dusk and blinking (due to low battery) since i got my E71..i like that it has a built-in radio, and putting in Garmin GPS rocks...it is like an all-in-one foe me now..for work exchange mail...radio and music while jogging..and GPS for the fun...

I really do like where this phone is going. A 3.5mm jack would really sale this phone for me, but no chance on that w/ an E series. US 3G = I call all in. What worries me is what other phones nokia has planned that we don't even know about. Dang nokia well played!

Triband? How about _QUAD_ band (T-mobile USA support)?

Why have 3 or 4 device variants, when you can just have one?

I heard they're working on a chip for it, though (did I hear that earlier in this thread? infineon or something?)

Oh, so you've experienced the older BB server...I heard it's a lot more stable than version 4+, which is what we're using. BB Professional replaced BES Express, and we ended up plunking down $1000 for it and a 5 user license package (BES is up to $3 grand now). Personally, I think it's OK, but I'm not particularly impressed with it. Initial setup is a major pain, though adding users/devices is comparatively easy. I really don't need 90% of the features in there...our users are interested in OTA PIM-sync, mobile e-mail, and nothing else....it's not like I'm going to lock down the CEO's phone, tempting as it might be. ;)

I'm probably going to check into the pricing on the Nokia solutions just out of curiosity, and try and squeeze them for a demo someday...could be some fairly handy knowledge either way. Anyone around here have any experience with Nokia's server-side offerings?

The feature may just be turned-off in your settings:

Make sure "contact search" is enabled in the phone's settings:

Menu> Tools> Settings> Phone> Call> Contact Search> On

so i was having problems sending email on my E71 running MFE 2.5.5 on T Mobile. i found a solution on http://www.e-series.org/archives/404

the advice was to adjust the access point (tmobile "t-zones" for me) "advanced settings" -

"...data bearer stays the same (as the phone had originally set up itself), the access point name assigned by your isp stays the same (as the phone had originally set up itself), the user name stays the same (as the phone had originally set up itself). under prompt password it should be NO, the password area will be filled in with ****, the authentication should say Secure. (if it does not say secure this seems to cause 2.0 all kinds of problems like hanging, losing the connection and re-starting the phone....Under homepage I have none (I left mine as the default and it doesn't seem to be an issue).

THIS IS THE CHANGE THAT DID THE TRICK (SO FAR):

"...select options and go to advance settings - here is where the big change is. Network type remain IPv4, Phone IP address is set to automatic, DNS address is automatic, Proxy serv. address is none and proxy number is 0."

my settings had a proxy address and a port number. i just deleted them.

this problem seems to be a MFE sync issue tied in with how the access point is set up for t-mobile...though this worked for the person who gave the initial advice and he was on AT&T.

hope this helps you...i struggled with it for a day or so. my phone functioned perfectly otherwise.

What?? I didn't know you sold it. :bulging: No, wait for the NAM! Don't buy the e71-1 again because you'll just end up selling it again. Get the Bold if the E71-2 doesn't come out by then. :D I lost track, is it the end of August that the E71-2 will be released?
