*OFFICIAL THREAD: Nokia E71

I have the curve as well....and I have to say RIM makes a nice business device, but lacks the multimedia prowess of Nokia. I love Nokia's camera and such. Also, I prefer Nokia's design as well.

wow that E71 next to the iphone looks friggin awesome. its so much nicer looking than the iphone too!! that's my opinion anyways. it just looks so sleek and solid and modern...that iphone surprisingly looks a little dated to me next to it.

That is certainly true. Many carriers have the view that it is their bandwidth and their slice of the spectrum, they dictate the rules, does not matter what customers want or hwo rubbish their own services are.

Awfully quiet on this thread.
Symbian Freak confirmed that the e71 is for real and Teo actually held it in his hands.Though he was not willing to reveal anything further due to NDA.
Should be available for sale next month.

Regarding Nokia switching to MfE completely, what do they think, that everyone has their emails on MS exchange server? What about POP accounts hosted on non MS servers?

are you coming down from something?....or without your contacts?! :befuddled

....That's the genuine article my friend. Remember this thread and come back with an apology once you get the official confirmation.

...an iphone....

Has anyone noticed that the E71's voip client (internet phone) does not properly send out the numbers? E.g. with my N95 8GB, it always ignores any characters in the formatting of a number (except for "+") and sends the dialed number without them. The E71 sends the number "as is", i.e. if you have a formatted number +1 (313) 568-8000, it should be sent as [email protected] (or any other voip provider) but the E71 sends +1 (313) [email protected]

All my settings are as on my N95, and it works flawlessly on the E71 if I removed the number formatting in my contacts.

Is anyone else noticing the same?

P.S. forgot to mention, that if the number is sent formatted, it wouldn't go through, I usually get an error "address not in use"

I have the e71-1. UTMS 850/2100. I got it because I valued having 3G speeds some of the time in a wider geographical area, more than 3G speeds all of the time in a much smaller selection of places.

I haven't driven to downtown T.O. as of yet. So far I've been in Stouffville (which I am suprised that I get any type of service at all ;)) and Markham (Hwy-7, Warden). So, that may indeed be the problem, or non-problem so to speak.

I think I initially posted this message because I was wondering if my phone was defective. However the more I use it, the more it becomes apparently clear that the unit is fine, as my reception is fantastic and everything else seems to be working normally. I'll probably head downtown today at some point, so I can report back on my findings.

You'll most likely need to contact Good Technologies ... see if they have a beta or working app for your E71 - shoot they maybe able to PAY YOU for trialing & working with them for software. By chance is there some kind of emulation mode for compatibility (similar to WinXP running an app in Win98mode)??

Video Playback - try to keep the resolution ... but lower the video size (or bits/second) this should help. SUPER is your friend.

I know, I know. This is the time for rejoicing, not complaining. But somebody's got to lead it off, and I'm just the whiner to do it! :hehehe:

With such a slim form factor, and the fact that's is an E-series phone, I suppose there is little or no hope of built-in GPS. :( That's one thing I never thought I'd use on my N95-1 and it turns out I've used it and been rescued by it on more than one occasion. So far, the only E-series mobile to sport this nifty feature is the monster E90. Hell, that thing could probably power the space shuttle Atlantis! I suppose an external GPS receiver wouldn't be such a hardship, but I do so love the clean all-in-one package my N95 gives me.

Seriously, that has nothing to do with the E71...

And people wonder how these threads get so long. I'm tired of wading through this kind of stuff when trying to find things about the actual phone the topic is about.

Reported.

20 days short for iphone's 1st anniversary?

If they add :
Video rec. ,nicer camera, contacts sync with outlook, sms forwarding, adding contact into sms from contact list, small size, less heavy, better keyboard, I may think of importing one from the US.
