*OFFICIAL THREAD: Nokia E71

The threads and people on this forum are more interesting to talk to. Over in the BB Forum, since the pearl and curve have been announced, have been mostly newbie questions about using their BB without a BB data plan. That question gets asked about 4 times a week. I guess since there are no hacks for the BB, there is less to discuss. I am, anxiously, waiting for the Bold!

I'm coming from an E90 and HTC TC, 4" and 2.8" screens. 2.4 is small for me. I browse ALOT and watch videos every now and then, and for email purposes, 2.4" seems quite small. I like BB's layout of the screen, which is what I want.

Anyone know what the curve's screen size is?

EDIT: I do wear glasses, and I love big screens. Reason enough?

And the built-in music player in X-Plore remembers repeat settings? Oooh.

I have MediaMonkey and used to use it very often, but I'm too lazy these days to go through so much music and retag it :(

So I'm guessing there's no way to selectively activate BT profiles in S60? I guess that leaves me with going back to my Logitech Freepulse headphones?

They've got something to prove to me before I ever consider a SE phone again. They never got the firmware right on the P990 to the point where you can call it their flagship smartphone, which is what they wanted it to be. The P1 firmware has gotten better, according to a buddy with one, but it's not there yet. And once a newer model comes out and pushes an older one into the third or fourth slot as far as top model, development slows or stops on the older phone's firmware.

I had a simple K790i that fell victim to the dreaded EPROM error, a corruption issue. SE's response was "sorry, try a third-party updater." I got it straightened out with DaVinci Team, for $20, and got new firmware in the process, but damn, what a pain!

I don't know how it is in the US, but for Canada, if you select insurance (optional), he would have to declare the full price to the shipping agency (fedex, ups etc.) and you would pay sales taxes, but not duty (only gst/pst). I've never insured such items before, but something came over me this time and did  Not sure what he would declare without, you should ask (plemix, x1387 ... always puts a low value, about $100 and I've never paid anything more than 10-15 dollars on that).

gents lets not bash the E90 yet!!
remember the all the riot before this device was released!!!
there are people who like the large internal widescreen display. it s nowhere near as big as previous communicators- and if you are using yr phone as a laptop replacement (like I do) it is a workhorse.

I went back to using one from an E61i a few days ago and couldn't be happier.
yes I also have the E71 on order- two of them in fact. I am sure it will be a great device-hopefully not too buggy.

In the meantime i'd rather carry a cannon, than just having a wish in my hands...

Wirelessly posted (Blackberry 8820: Opera/9.50 (J2ME/MIDP; Opera Mini/4.1.11355/534; U; en))

Contact search better be there in the NAM versions!

just got my demo today...I'm excited to start playing with it and answering any questions you guys have.

I would post an unboxing, but there's a few floating around so I may post some pix and video taken with the E71 as well as a few comparison shots with things I can get my hands on.

:D

i can't figure out the damn screensaver. i want it to show the time and notifications. someone help me. i see the animations and stuff which is pretty cool, but i don't need it. thanks.

I agree with you on that 100%....there are some features that Nokia should try to implement into their E-series devices and copy what BB is doing. Went back to the Curve today from my E90 and it's just feels a lot easier device to use. I do miss the Camera of the E90 though :( Why can't Nokia just license the BB software for the E-series and keep all that multimedia sweetness :D

Two programs I'm having slight problems with...they work sometimes but not all the time. Mobitubia and Slick....anyone else having problems with these two programs?
