*OFFICIAL THREAD: Nokia E71

@Nixit

I don't know but i have been using it for a long time now and had quite a few new versions in that time also as they constantly improve it.

Having said that so far it's been free which is great and has made it easy for me to decide that when the free Beta ends it will be well worthwhile paying for it. As i don't think i could go back to normal E-Mail and so far it really is the best i have used. Due to the fact it is just so easy to set up, no forwarding my accounts or changing anything else just choose my accounts and entering my user name and passwords is just so simple and easy and it just works.

www.cti-miami.com seems to be selling the E71 now. I believe it is the Euro version. Also the Nokia flagship in New York City has an E71 with US 3G frequencies behind the counter that you check out.

My guess is that the E71-2 will be out very shortly.

As a follow upt o a few ebay comments.. there are legitimate auctions for the E71-1 currently on ebay.

Hi all,

The E71 in MO is not a great Multimedia device as it both lacks the support for H.264 at decent encoding and has such a small screen. Possibly the Bold may be better as it has a better screen, faster processor and it looks like better support for various codecs. But again it still only has a 2.5" so really just how long could anyone comfortably watch anything on that?

Thankfully I'm in the UK so get all the benefits of 3G/HSDPA on my E90 which is why even now with the newly released devices it still hasn't been surpassed IMO. Which is why 8 months on i still am happy and have nothing worthwhile to upgrade to yet.

I played with a proto at the NYC Nokia store and it was awesome. The entire back panel is the battery. Without the battery this thing is so thin that it would snap in half in your pocket. The work/play switch is very nice and the calendar shows your day entries like on the inner screen of the E90. It is an amazing device.

While I was there I also played with an E90 for a long time and realized why some people can't use anything else. Internet on it is basically like using the N810 with that screen. If they could slim it down a little and put US 3G on it, my N95 will be sold for it in a minute.

EDIT: BTW, the guy there wouldn't say but he hinted basically that AT&T should be getting it.

Yeah, I knew they had some sort of rule like that. I rarely buy locked carrier subsidized phones (usually just blackberries since they are usually sold thru carriers only) and I have only unlocked one. But I have all the international stuff on my account already and its been at least 2 years since I unlocked a device. A month is not very long to wait. Or, you can call back and tell your story to another ATT rep and see if you get a different answer. Usually you will.

I have to agree with this....it's the only one that syncs exchange with all, including notes, which MS doesn't even do. The contact category sync is my main sore point with S60, but it's true...that it is jack of all trades device. I guess one just can't have everything....the bold looks really nice, but it's pretty big compared to the E71...and thin is in. ;)

jontymisra...how's the weight and "solid" feel compared to the 83xx & 88xx BB's? I hope it's heavier than the Curve...since it's almost too light and plasticky for me, almost. If it has the same or heavier weight than the 88xx, and is built as tight and solid as the Curve...that will be perfect.

I ordered it online and paid the $30 for the express......it says ships within 24 hours, so I'm guessing that it will leave HK tomorrow and will arrive Wed....That's usually the time it takes for x1367 and Plemix to ship and get to my place in NYC.

It is pretty smooth for me. There are some slight issues when you have an application set to "always ask" for connection and for some reason the connection isn't available, it goes into a small 2-3 second freeze.

Other than that - it works well but I've only installed about 6-7 applications thus far.

Here is a annoyance with the 'good' app

It is syncing mails/meetings well with exhange server.. but, I can't type in this damn application. All numeric keys are typing numerals not alpha chars  Well, the world is not perfect. I use the good app mainly to read not much to respond! When I do, the workaround is to use copy/paste from default text editor.

^yes you can use an mp3 as a ringtone

This is what i was talking about

The screen changes to that when i get a text and at random times, its been bugging me to see how I can make that my screen saver, i managed to snap a pic of it if you still don't get what i mean.

This will improve your battery life as well.

The one I'm using is a beast on reception! I was in the middle of nowhere New Mexico and got a signal when my aunt and uncle coudln't (Treo 680 and RAZR!)

Wow, miss a week, you miss alot. I am back from a week without any computer much less any coverage, and was welcomed to the discussion I hoped I'd come back to. It has taken me the better part of 4 hours to read the new 32 pages of this thread since I left last Sunday. Man, you guys have been busy!

I regularly buy from buy.com and have never had an issue with them. They are one of my preferred vendors when I need anything electronic. However, I generally dont buy preorders. When buy.com has stock, they are the best. I bought my E51 from them. One bit of advice. I have in the past opted for free shipping, and it takes FOREVER. The free shipping option uses some common carrier service that picks up the stuff and then delivers it to a US postal service location that then sorts it and puts it into the regular US mail delivery system. Spend a couple of bucks and go with UPS Ground. I generally find their pricing for 2nd day delivery to be very reasonable.

I will continue to follow this thread and live vicariously thru you guys to determine if the E71 will end up in my stable.
