*OFFICIAL THREAD: Nokia E71

ok, I understand...
but does this mean I should continue to try to connect? I tried multiple of time (10) and it just doesn't find the gps.
My friend says he can go on the Garmin's settings/system and within Remote GPS he has options of what gps to use. I don't all I have is 'Connection allowed to Garmin GPS device only' and then Pair New GPS as an option I can choose.

Is this normal??
I think I have to reinstall all of it again, see what happens then.

For Nokia to do that, they need to come up with some backend software to match up with their devices...something that provides the same function as MS's options on Exchange 2007 or BB Enterprise Server, for device management, security, provisioning, etc. This is important to guys like me, who are looking at issuing phones to people...we have to MANAGE them too, and things that let us remote-provision software on them, or lock down certain functions to prevent abuse, are pretty important.

To this point, Nokia has provided nothing like that. Hence they aren't as attractive an option.

@HyperM3:

That doesn't sound like normal battery life at all! Either it's defective or your battery needs to be conditioned. Are you running WiFi all day? Bluetooth will take some battery life but not THAT much! Maybe set the email check to every 15 minutes and see how that does with the battery. It may not be an acceptable interval for email checking for you, but it could point to the culprit for your short battery life. Maybe try it for half a day?

Threaded SMS is not standard. There is a Nokia app in the Beta Labs area of their website called Conversations. That is supposed to give you threaded SMS. Nothing comes close to the old Palm Treo for threaded SMS, imho, but this is not so bad.

Just got my E71 (I know, I'm a total latecomer!!) :) I don't know if this is normal, but I'm experiencing a few 'problems' and I would appreciate your insight as to whether or not it's normal:

1) when my keypad is LOCKED...the backlight doesn't come on, and I'm usually left fumbling around to unlock the keypad.
2) When the keypad is UNLOCKED, the backlight and keypad light only come on when my surroundings are dark
3) My Nokia isn't picking up all the contacts from my SIM.

Thanks guys!!!

Well jeez! Aren't you curious? You should at least give it a whirl to see how it performs. See if it's up to snuff like Nokia says!

There will be plenty of time to pack it up for shipping to the new owner. Besides, you can't just play with boring email apps all day! Especially when you've got an amazing handset to monkey around with!!

looks like wasted vertical real estate. those 2 notifications alone looks like it filled up the available screen below the active standby icons.

jonty,I need a fix. How's it shaping up? first impressions? 2nd day impressions? Can you throw me/us a bone? Is M4E workin' for ya now? Got any tidbits? :buddies:

Great, that clears things up.

I did previously use a external bluetooth GPS along with the E61i and worked pretty good.. Took less than a minute to lock onto a signal using TOMTOM6..

So i was hoping the GPS on the E71 would work quite similar..
