*OFFICIAL THREAD: Nokia E71

Besides catching an occasional ballgame on the sling player, I have not used any of my devices for any multimedia applications. I think the E71 looks great, but I have decided I am gonna just get the bold and stick with my E51 for S60.

i'm also discussing this in the S60 thread and have heard conflicting responses on this (separate sent folders for each inbox)....

two responses say there are separate folders, while another just said they are combined.

it may be a setting in S60?

anyone know the answer?

Well my one gripe with S60 vs. BB is actuallly the sync of category and the layout of contact....also BB syncs notes and you can file email into the correct folders when using BES....that's the big difference for me.

nope there are no IM clients that use SMS except for the ones that are offered by the carrier. there's no way to get those clients unless you buy the phone from the carrier and use the carrier's firmware which has that IM client installed.

For me it's between the E71 and the Blackberry Bold now. I tried the Moto Q and found I still hate Windows Mobile. It gives me a blinding headache and makes me angry. I would love to see Palm re-enter the race with a serious device, not some warmed over Treo design with the ultra-patched Palm OS or WM. The Treo 850 might be interesting if it appears before the year 2010. I'm also very curious about Android, but it's all vaporware for now.

The thing will be the features of the Bold vs. E71, and how well they work with T-Mobile. I'm resisting the urge to port over to AT&T, but these new devices may make that an necessity.

Been downloading themes today, and some will completely change the icons.
I will say though the original ones grow on you. It's like using an old macintosh.

On a side note, I had to take my E71 to a Nokia Service Center today because of the constant freezing and apps disappearing. They re-flashed my phone but the culprit was the memory card. They ended up reflashing it and now everything thus far works smoothly.

For those that don't know, there are apps, additional maps etc. on the 2gb memory card so if you are thinking of upgrading it, make sure you copy the contents over.

Still trying to figure out the GPS, a bit confusing.

Typing on the keyboard is getting better, but still feeling a bit cramped. Predictive text really is valuable for the keyboard being so small. Will try and work through it, if not then it's the E66 for me.

Overall though, I like this phone a lot. Such a classy device.

** Oh one more thing, I received confirmation that the contact search function from the home screen is missing and that Nokia is aware of it and will issue a fix in the next software update. This could only be affecting Phones from Asia, but non the less just wanted to let you all know.

I was the friend that madjsp was referring to. For some reason when I was dialing my voicemail from the "1" key it was adding an extra 5 to the number. Finally noticed it and was able to fix it. Now I am 100% satisfied with this phone Just need to get used to the qwerty, as this is my first.

well that's a perfect report for the ambassador program. send it in (if you signed up for it). this is the intent of the program, but if they had something at the next level, where you devoted weekend or just 1 day here and there to make an event out of it and teach about s60 goodness to noobs, it would be perfect. i had a hard time sending reports cause i'm in the middle of nowhere in the desert.

this is the real deal but after reading about the upcoming qwerty nseries I'm a bit less excited. There is little doubt that I'll be getting this but I'm curious to see the nseries qwerty.

Even for SMS messages, I find QWERTY makes a huge difference. It's harder for me coming back to my N95 after over a year with Blackberrys, but as I get more used to T9 it's getting easier. One thing I absolutely love about how the Blackberry handles input is that it will insert apostrophes where they belong, automatically. Even with a QWERTY keyboard, this is a wonderful feature. On T9 it would be an absolute dream.

does anyone know what other phone has the same screen size as the e71? Im going to order screen protectors from clarivue but they dont have the e71 on there yet...

Glad I sold my stock when it was above $30....I think Nokia has been tip toeing along this year and haven't really had a wow device....this morning, I saw an article that SE will be introducing an 8.1mpx camera with zenon and led flash....

Actually, the E61/E62/E61i are some of my favorite Nokias ever personally. As long as the java works and there is US 3G then I will drop all phones for this one, even sans the camera.
