*OFFICIAL THREAD: Nokia E71

I guess whomever comes out with the device first will get my money................who are my kidding all 3 will probably get my money :hehehe: I just can't wait to play with a new device any longer...

Not acceptable. I guess we will have to reduce the resolution for E71. On N95 & E90 I could play any high resolution.

However, I am impressed by the music quality.. it is as good as E90 even close to N95! A2DP quality is also good.

That's not quite true. Any of the N95's GPS could function without A-GPS, you just have to switch it off and test (it takes much longer to lock as the GPS chip is not that strong and also tracks less satellites, and might have issues in dense urban areas with tall structures). In fact, the first time around, N95 had no A-GPS and people complained about it being very bad, I believe, then Nokia included it in a firmware update. I personally don't even know of any phone that uses just A-GPS, agps is just add-on for improving accuracy and ttif.

Btw, even with data roaming, as long as you don't allow the application to connect for anything else to the network, just for agps, it wouldn't cost that much at all.

Ive read mix reviews on this. Perhaps the reports of poor battery life were on preproduction or prototype units. I have also heard this delayed the release of the bold, but there are also rumors the iphone release is delaying the release of the Bold on ATT.......... so, who knows what to believe.

I do believe RIM will have it right when the Bold is released. In reality, I just need a good full day of battery with wifi, cell, bluetooth and 3G running. I charge every night, but some days I can run my 8820 pretty close to dead.

Not sure if Nokia's cash flow is "cleaner" than Apple's. Apple's cash flow (liquid) is in the 6 or more BILLIONS! Also they have not been purchasing company's as much as Nokia or as quite expensive. But its orders & shipments & market share I'm concerned about on a GLOBAL scale. iPhone may have done well in Europe, but globally it wasn't as widely available. So smartphones is a SMALL segment in Nokia's lineup still as they have so many low-mid range phones in emerging markets.

This E71-2 is taking its sweet time to fill channels, eh?! ;) .
Nokia can considerably increase their smartphone sales if they really push for infrastructure based on the IntelliSync solution. Smartphones are not simply about data consumption, but rather communications, organization, and sharing/contributions.

Hi Dogmann,
I clicked this link and it says I have to get this link from the Nokia site. So, i go to the Nokia website, and browse to get the settings, but the Nokia E71 model is not an option to select. Am I doing something wrong?

Caveat emptor!
Some people see a status in paying too much. No matter what I buy (and I suspect the same is true of you), I always do my homework and I always know what I am willing to pay for something. I dont mind walking away from a deal and never get emotionally involved with a purchase. I do buy most things on line, so I think that tends to help stick to the facts and price and not get sucked up in "i want it now and I have driven all the way across town........ (yada, yada, yada).

Ill take you up on that beer.... Ill be up your way in a few week!

I have an E51 with M4E and I am happily syncing with my Exchange2003 server but not running SP2 (still on SP1. I wont let the network guys install SP2 becasue I dont feel like going thru all the BES server "send as" problems that I have experienced with some of my customers)

I know SP2 addressed some security issues, so I wonder if that is what it is. Do you get any specific error or just the generic "server error" (gee thanks Nokia).?

i have a question. i just set up my email on my e71, but on the main screen it still says @set up-email instead of saying something like gmail (x amount of messages). how do i configure this?

as you can see this persons e71 (in the middle) says gmail (17). for me it still says @set up-email even though i already set it up.

Can someone explain to me why my phone doesn't update the time automatically even though my power saving and breathing light is turned off? If the time shown was 7:50pm and I didn't do anything for 5 minutes, it will still say 7:50 until I press the direction key and then it shows the right time in big fonts and then the time in the bar updates. This doesn't happen when I use the power-saving "Now Playing." This started happening after I updated to the 200.xx.xxx firmware.

I tried reinstalling my firmware in order to start fresh and I still have the same problem.

Also, what causes my phone to lag a lot? I installed all my themes and games to the phone's memory and my memory card only has music files.

Is there any way to somehow format the E71?

iPhone 2.0 is definitely an attractive package, I'm gona only get it because it's gona be cheap, really really cheap, which itself will get alot more customers. And considering it's going to be launched officially in 70 countries as well, it may do more than just a dent.

Still doesnt change that I still want to get the E71.

Im now torn after looking at the photos on gsmarena. I am startiing to like the white one, alot!!! Is there any photos somewhere of the back of the white one? Even if it did get dirty over time, I could always replace the keypad.

I'm on PDA Connect, but I have a friend who is on Medianet and came over from an E61 also on Medianet. I travel abroad and want the 20 megs outside the US. 5 megs wouldn't cut it. I don't understand the distinction. My other phone is an E65 and technically this wouldn't be a PDA even though it does all the same things. I guess that is the arbitrary nature of line drawing and what happens with two similar things on the other side of an arbitrary line (e.g. why is someone who is twenty years eleven months old not be able to drink -- are they could going to get more mature in one month?).

There is a thread going on over on the TMobile forum about TMobile's starting to detect people with unbranded phones on their $5.99 plan.
