*OFFICIAL THREAD: Nokia E71

Any idea how to get nokia messaging to work? I installed it yesterday and had to hard reset, now when I install it, the icon I used to access it does nothing and when I set up the email, it puts it into the messaging category which is not what I want...

to all those who ordered from rose...did you ever get any sort of tracking/shipping info? i placed my order yesterday and have yet to hear word from her, except for some email with an offer of a warranty. id like to have it by thursday ideally

Weird...

There's been reports of people using the E1 for more than 3 days straight!

I wonder if your's is defective... :(

I still haven't got mine (it arrived to it's destination but I haven't got the time to pick it up) to test it's endurance though...

I hope to get it today.

Doubtful. You may just be in an area with no 3G signal on the 850 band. That's why it was suggested you wait for the North American model. If you truly want to not have to switch phones to go overseas, then the E71 isn't for you: you want something that supports three or more UMTS bands.

I installed everything on to my sd card and
it can't lock onto the gps, it says its searching for GPS.

I checked google maps and the phone locked on to 6 satellites, so I know the phones GPS does work

To be honest, the same sort of thing happened in my company, only in reverse. We deployed Exchange 2007, which already has built-in push-email capability as you know. We had that set up and everything, and then the CEO got a Blackberry Curve and wanted it to work with his e-mail, contacts, and everything...he was quite enchanted with the device. His decision, we bought and implemented BB Professional ("BES Lite").

Then, at the next quarterly meeting, he pointed out that we had to start keeping an eye on spending and save money where we can. So anyway, we didn't exactly ditch Exchange ActiveSync, but we invested in something else to get functionality similar to what we already had. Primarily because Blackberries only work with Blackberry Server (or Intellisync Server anyway).

Need this screen on E71 ;)

Agreed, my 8820 is the first smartphone I have had that I can just leave Wifi and BT on all the time and never worry it is going to consume my battery.

The battery on the E71 looks like it will do the same, not because the device is a power miser, but because the battery will start your car if you need a jump start!

i have had mine apart already, but i didnt have any instructions. but i can tell you the process, its easy. remove the battery cover. there are 4 screws on the back, they are size T5 torx screws, so you need a size T5 torx screw driver. i got the whole set for 5 bucks from home depot. once you remove the screws, i used something thin to slip in between the body of the phone and pop the one side off. i'm talking about the side with the volume keys, but at the lowest part near the bottom of the phone. then the other side can pop off pretty easy.

now the entire front cover will come off including the keyboard.

that's the furthest i went cause i was fixing my keyboard. some advice, once you take this sucker apart like this, the screen will get some particles on it, and its IMPOSSIBLE to remove them all. i used everything from an air can to alcohol swabs, and the screen always had some specs once i put it back together. good luck.

Well, that's not too far away. I have decided that my E51 is going back to buy.com. I think I can still return it (its within 30 days). I have not messed with it since the first week it showed up, the screen is just too small for my old eyes.

I have seen others comment that perhaps Nokia will announce and ship at the same time. That seems like a good strategy.

considering Apple uses Sun Java System Messaging Servers, and Consillieum Sync service; its possible that you can use the 1st mention above on your Mac (using Entourage I think) and use your Mac as a pseudo server ;) . I'll looking at all the software - which is free to download, but licensing for support is where the costs are. Seems that it's compatible with Linux so I'm hoping it'll work on Mac OS X - as I plan to transfer over to this platform by years end (waiting for Montevista cpu to be in MBP).

Mobile Me should be able to work though - unless Apple is picky as usual with their services.

Is there anyone that has more knowledge on "Sun Java System Messaging Server" app and how it can work for the end user??

A few questions...

1. Does using the email services use data, or sms/mms?
2. Does using the GPS with Nokia Maps use any data? (i.e. a-gps does, and gps does not, correct?)
3.Is there an IM (AIM) app that uses sms/mms/im plan instead of the data plan?

Thanks!
