*OFFICIAL THREAD: Nokia E71

Compared to the Curve the 9000 also offers a super high res. screen, GPS/wifi in the same unit, a newer OS and much more power processor with more ram.

That is probably true, but its not a bad idea to have it unlocked as well, especially if you want to sell it. ATT is usually pretty good about giving you an unlock code for a device if you have been a customer for a while. Just call and ask to speak to the international department. Then tell them you are going overseas and want to be able to use a local SIM while there. It should not be a big deal. I need to do that with my ATT branded BB8820 as I will be moving to the bold as well. I know my 8820 wont be worth much when the bold hits the street, but it should be worth something.

You've just explained why Symbian 9 has the security model it does. Gee, thanks for missing the point, in addition to telling me what I obviously already knew.

I want to be able to do what I want with my phone, not yours. The developer certificates are tied to one specific IMEI (my phone). The signed program will not run on any other phone. Why, then, do I not get all capabilities when signing an app to run solely on my phone?

Besides, we somehow managed to muddle through before Symbian 9.

Also, as an enterprise, I shouldn't have to pay thousands of dollars to install an app on phones my company owns. Perhaps making it possible to set up our own chain of trust would be one way of going about it. I shouldn't have to rely on the continued functioning of Symbian's servers to write an application and run it.

Edited to add: BTW, nice scare quotes. Last I checked, I do indeed have title to my mobile. You don't, so it's not "my" phone. And again, my issue isn't with signing in general, it's with the requirements as they currently exist.

I did not know ATT can tell if you are on 3G or EDGE. Also, why not just get the E70-2 (edit: I meant E71-2)with the US warranty and set it to GSM only if you are afraid of the iPhone data plan issue. I still do not think there is anything wrong of using the iPhone data plan with other phones though. :)

I found the first bug.. this was present in the inital release of FP1. Whenever there is a voice message, a text message that comes with a wierd character. And everytime I check the voice message, I get a blank text message :( It is buggin me

I know.....but I'm going on vacation and it's damn hard when you're on vacation and you're so relaxed that you can't think about anything but gadgets!! If I was at work it would be easier :hehehe:

What happens is the entire keyboard moves up and down at the top part where it meets the lcd screen. Just 1mm or so but all the keys move together. Should I return it?

And I just gotta get used to a full keyboard. T9 is much faster and easier one handed but this has its advantages too.

Btw guys, is it true that for Lithium-ion battery, it will not be over-charged unlike those olden days battery? Reason why I am asking is because I cannot afford to go flat of my battery during work so is it ok to charge every day even though the battery is not totally flaT?

It looks for an infrared signal and if it doesn't find one, times out after a few minutes. Turning off your phone also turns it off, until you activate it again.

Yeah...what happened to announcing this phone? I thought only hardware change right? There's no new software going in so what's taking so long?

I'm dyeing here...I'm selling my E90, but think of getting the E51 since I really would like to keep an S60 device in my staple.

well if tomorrow is the day, ill grab a euro one to hold me over till the NA one is out... if not i guess ill grab a BOLD till the NA one is released... *crosses fingers*

Well, you don't even need to install Nokia PC Suite at all... If you plug your E71 and select Internet connection, you will be prompted on your PC if you want to install the Nokia PC Internet Access stand alone application. That application resides in a special hidden partition on your phone, so you don't have to lug the install cd around!... Nice!

But then again, this only works on Windows XP, Vista or Seven... :p

Cheers!

Um if I were you I'd AVOID installing the 3rd app in it as it doesn't allow Share Online to connect at all (v2, not sure about v3).
IF you want them I can email them to you if you like? Just PM me soon before I'm offline at 9:30PM.

you know i would agree with you before, but since i got a free paif of the nokia stereo BT BH-501, i am a changed man! these things dont look dorky at all, they sound volume is incredible as well as the quality. i use them on the freeway all the time cause they are so loud. and comfortable. check them out, might change your mind since these are the cheap ones i think and they are pretty good.
