*OFFICIAL THREAD: Nokia E71

didnt know you had become a M4E convert.
I guess you have to ask yourself your primary needs for a device. The BB is a mail centric business device that is finally including more media feature. S60 seems to be better at media (especially the Ns) that continues to add business features.

Someone said it here already, they all do a pretty good job, and perhaps that is the reason there is so much discussion comparing and contrasting the devices. I could be just as happy with an E71 as I would be with a Bold. But, I already have the BES infrastructure in place, so I will go with a bold.

Its fun to have several choices..... if they ever get released.

my brother used to put his money on his socks...

the pouch is good, and it is better than no pouch at all... to those who don't like it, just donate it to me...

Nokia did not annnouce this phone officially. They usually release 1-2 qtrs after the announcement. So, don't expect it anytime soon.

Another day without the announcement. all that happened was the Q1 results as planned.
I am beginning to think that the E71i is only for museum purpose.

Most likely last I'd say, unless for *some* reason you happen to drop it from a few floors up, or into a jug of beer...

As for the media player - it's very basic. Album art has to be manually set on the phone for each album, and you can't really do temporary playlists (i.e. select an album, then queue up another album after that without resorting to creating a playlist). But for what it does, it does very well - the song browsing menus are quite good with integrated search.

Maybe because of the location of the GPS chip inside the unit? On E71 it should be on top, but on N95 its under the keyboard - making a lock with the slider open much faster... (at least with AGPS disabled)

why would you suggest that? I bought the phone specifically because I need the 2100 band. If I got the e71-2, then I would have to buy another phone for europe and asia. I am trying to get away from switching phones.

It will be a totally absolutely diserter if E71 does not support Blackberry Connect. This phone is targeted towards the mobile business users who, most exclusively, use Blackberry. Plus, I thought the keyborad form-factor in E61/62/61i/71 is build for typing emails.

I don't think Nokia will sell E71 well without BBC. In fact, it will be a real stupid thing then.

Anyone know more about this?

I believe Nokia owns all of Symbian S60....UIQ is now owned by Moto and SE....

To get back on track, the S60 software has big flaws in business friendliness. IMO BB is well received because what it does, it does very well. If you don't care about having constant streams of email, sync flawlessly, and qwerty than S60 or some other OS is probably good for you. If you need a good multimedia device with business support than BB is probably not the best choice....IMHO every software has flaws and benefits....just depends on what you need and which out weighs which... :buddies:

I'm reluctant to buy from x1367....because I want a non-asian keypad. I'll probably wait till Nokia store here in NYC carries them so I can go see both colors and choose one.

S60 does not allow for a scheduled on/off like BB's. It's not in the power management API. There was a shorter thread where I explained a bit better, but in short - it's not currently possible with S60v3.

You're killing me with these kinds of comments.........I'm getting sooooo tempted. Just emailed Import GSM to see if Asian Keypad or not. For $100 more that it's going to cost to get this phone now vs in a month........would love to have this thing on my vacation.

Called Nokia store and they said end of July or early Aug.....

The Blackjack II isn't a bad device for Windows Mobile...you get a decent GPS chip and 3G, though I've heard the RF sensitivity is only OK. But it's a nice slim device, and it's inexpensive.

However, I'm VERY happy I already have money set aside for the E71, let's put it that way. I wouldn't MIND a Blackjack II, but I WANT an E71.

Yes, That was on my "old" 9300 which is gathering cobwebs on the shelf. When I upgraded the f/w on it it lost the bb connect ability so I went to roadsync. This was before I discovered cortado.
