*OFFICIAL THREAD: Nokia E71

We also havent seen any more info from the guy that posted all those new pix of the E71 on Wednesday. I am guessing that he has more info that he is not sharing.

To my knowledge there are roughly 3 phones currently that do ... 2 Samsungs, and one Nokia - all feature phones. But, I'm with johnkzin, in that when TMobile goes full out (they DO have the largest specturm supporting just about coast to coast across the USA; details on phonescoop AWS link) then maybe more manufacturer's will augment the chipset's bands (get FCC approval no doubt), and make partnership deals to sell their wares.

i gotta say, the D pad slow light up around the inside ring for notifications is simply PERFECT!! its sooooooo slick looking; i love it. this video is the first time i've actually seen it, and i assume it flashes faster for missed call and text alerts.

QQ, is youtube or any flash video (via the browser) working for you (since we have similar units) ?

I'm able to get mobitubia working but there's this annoying sound glitch that happens every few seconds.

@Puonti

Sorry can't as the DHL man has already been and gone but i wouldn't say the light leak is a huge problem far from it. It really doesn't effect the usability or performance of the device at all but what did concern me was the movement in the top row of the keyboard.

there's plenty of oil left in the world, but its the cheap sweet crude oil like saudi arabian oil that might be running out soon. cananda has those oil shales, combined to be more than all of the middle eastern oil supply. its just hard and more expensive to extract it, but its there. and US has like 400 years of coal left. but thats dirty stuff to use and convert into petrol.

I will jump on whichever is released first. I'm also intrigued by the Palm Treo 850, but I fear it could be 2010 before we see that. Early on, the Palm looks very "Blackberry-ish" in profile. And there is a possibility it will support Android.

Well, I can see you are not using an objective view. You own all Symbian devices. I own both and will continue to do so. There are some things that the BB OS does better, sorry, number one is stability. My BB has never rebooted or locked up, EVER. I cant say the same for my E51. The OS design of the BB is what makes its mail solution so sought after, no to mention how efficient and easy it is to use. There is no match on the market as far as security and remote management of the device, which is VERY important if you have to manage a few thousand of them. So to say that no one ever bought a BB because of the OS is just not true.

Dont get me wrong, I love both S60, and the BB, but because of its fantastic business handling capabilities, my BB is in my pocket 24/7/365. I play with my E51 when I need a quick shot with a cam or I need to make a VoIP call.

Every device and OS has its strength's and weaknesses depending on how we use the device. That difference forms our opinions. Neither is right or wrong.

Linux is in the public domain, so it truely IS open, but if there is a single entity CONTROLLING Symbian, then I hate to tell you, it is proprietary as well.

Proprietary does not mean its bad or good, it only specifies how control and changes can be made.

Symbian is a proprietary OS... taken right from wikopedia:

"Symbian OS is a proprietary operating system, designed for mobile devices, with associated libraries, user interface frameworks and reference implementations of common tools, produced by Symbian Ltd. It is a descendant of Psion's EPOC and runs exclusively on ARM processors.

Symbian is currently owned by Nokia (47.9%), Ericsson (15.6%), Sony Ericsson (13.1%), Panasonic (10.5%), Siemens AG (8.4%) and Samsung (4.5%). Although BenQ acquired the mobile phone subsidiary of Siemens AG, the Siemens AG stake in Symbian did not pass to BenQ."

Suprised if it really is special edition as i haven't heard that from anywhere else and shops i have been looking for E71/E66 haven't mentioned this.
This guy is usually well-informed so who knows

First non press pic where that white version looks much better than the black imo.
