*OFFICIAL THREAD: Nokia E71

LiveSearch still doesn't work for me. Anyone can tell me step by step what to do? Maybe it's because I'm Canadian, but I have modified my account to a US address. Also, eBay is not listed among the stores that offers cashback.
 
I just received my E71-2 from Amazon today. Finally gave in and got the phone after going back and forth between N95-4, AT&T HTC Fuze, and couple of others (I have Blackberry Bold as a work phone). Needed to replace my aging and dying Nokia E71 (which I started using after my previous phone died) and after playing with N85 in Nokia store, decided that QWERTY is a good thing.

So, received the device today and promptly installed bunch of various apps (joikuspot, jbaktaskman, conversations, newer maps, mail for exchange, etc...). Everything seems to work fine, I am digging the dual-mode setup, Nokia PC Suite has been tremendously improved, I am connecting to my Exchange setup with no issues. Even played around with data connections from my laptop and that worked as well.

So far so good. Build is very solid and battery life seems to be good. I am very pleasantly surprised by this phone (had all kinds of issues with E70 and Nokia support in particular), and hopefully Nokia NAM support improved as well. Anyway, there are some downsides, messaging client still sucks, camera seems mediocre, and screen could be a bit bigger with higher resolution (then again, we'd have Bold-sized device). However, between the size, functionality, build and decent pricing, E71 is a great little device.

For pure Email, Bold is still better. However, Bold web browser still sucks and the device is kind of big.

It's activesync protocol as with the Silver package I have with Mail for exhange supports a 25mb box, which is nothing but I've set it up on my E71 with the server address/domain/username/pass settings.

I dont know how to differentiate between the two protocols as I've not read up enough on it. It's all new to me.
 
AAS review is based on proto which has a crappy camera... i simply expect the camera to be better when the real deal is here, but the video recording is simply a different matter, but i will expect the E90 to be better on other areas as well, well for one thing E90 has a lower SAR if that plays an important role to any of ya!
 
I've been using it and haven't seen that. I have a crap ton of programs open at a time, too. Only once or twice has one closed, even when running Garmin and Nokia Maps simultaneously. :p
 
I have an E71 coming in a few days. It is unlocked, my provider is AT&T. Is there an Internet Sharing app so I can connect the E71 to my laptop? I used to do it with my AT&T fuze. It came in handy
 
The Nokia Ambassador bloggers probably feel the same way. I totally respect your opinion and wisdom in reviewing devices - so don't get me wrong, just hear me out. You guys get to play with ALL the new S60 devices, therein lies the problem. You've played with too many too fast - faster than the usual geek and thus you get bored too quick. Add to that the N95 & E90 being the KINGS in their respective classes (Multimedia Convergence, Office Convergence) then anything else is 2nd best. But after so long and all the apps out there - its a kind of seen it all done it all. Remember how elated you were when you got the P1i, well that died after Day 4 if I recall from your review ;) .

Other than the Video Recording/Decoding hardware abilities (and a better sensor - I'm wondering if it can be swapped into the E71) the E71 does anything the E90 can do (FP1 tweaked app issues notwithstanding). Just remember, the E90 is supposed to be a travelling professionals' (Large business-to-business sales rep, corporate liaison, Exec going to expand in new markets) laptop replacement! The E71 is supposed to be a workers messaging device. Its target market or those working in various fields (office related, not construction) that previously owned or considering BB's.

I think if Nokia wants this E71 to be taken seriously by the target market, they'll need to backup this product with elite & professional synching services (which they already have but seems to be used only internally). The E71 stands pretty good on its own. But to use it for several months will show where its true colours are.

E90 had its own build quality issues, keyboard leaving marks on the screen (hardware update). This wasn't discovered until long term use. The gap under the E71's screen is discovered and if reported Nokia can fix the 2nd production run to alleviate its issues. Most that own the E90 have no issues carrying it - they knew its size.
 
Thats what I meant. A-GPS requires data to get the GPS lock quickly(it few seconds). One can always use without A-GPS feature.. means it takes ages(5-15 mins) to get the satellite lock.
 
This is true. Which phone was it, the n78 that AT&T released? It fell flat on its face for the most part. Probably because Nokia didn't market it correctly here in the US. You see tons of BB commercials, iPhone, etc here in the US, but Nokia hasn't really marketed like they should here either. I can't tell you the last time, or a time at all that I've seen a Nokia commercial here in the US marketing a specific phone.

I agree that some people "follow the hype", but a majority of users here on HoFo have the next big thing before normal people even realize what it is or that it exists. They follow us. :lol:
 
not at all.. im complaining about filling up my honda civic... and the reason you dont see hummers across the pond is number one, their countries are smaller and were built before the automobile for the most part (where as the majority of the growth of the US occurred with growth in popularity of the automobile, leading to a country that was essentially designed around the automobile), and number two thier public transit system is more established and more efficient than ours in america.
