*OFFICIAL THREAD: Nokia E71

i still dont understand the difference between push email vs IMAP IDLE. with my gmail if i leave the inbox connected, all the emails come thru instantly in real time. but i dont leave it connected all day, i just check it manually periodically. so if i use IMAP with IDLE, and connect it in the background, i dont have to set up interval checking, right? but this kills battery with the data connection. so does RIM not use an always-on data connection?

Initially, I thought the tiny keys (BlackBerry seed-size?) on my BlackBerry 8310 would be awkward and hard to use...but they aren't at all, but the ones on the E71 might be a learning curve for those used to the big keys on something like an E61i or something.

The only hinderance I see is that the E71's keys are flush against each other instead of being spaces apart a la the BlackBerry 83xx series..and that might make for some missed keys for folks with larger thumbs.

I am not sure if it uses activesync. It validated the certificates properly, I am thinking some background security app is missing. Moto doesn't even support E90 but it worked well on that. I guess I will have to wait till they make this that app 'compatible' with this phone.

Classic problem of chicken or egg. Since TMob's 3G config is more unique, are handset mfg waiting until the network and potential market is larger, or is TMob not in a hurry to have a 3G network until there are plenty of handsets that support it.

I dont know much about Tmobile, are there many 3G handsets that support its 3G network yet?

does anyone else have got a bunk one and had to replace it? is this a common defect?

how do you read the satellite status? like right now, i have only one detected/connected, it says 16 with a long rectangle next to it

this is my first and only s60 phone, im surprised it didnt even come with a simple countdown timer. :reallysad

Here is the close up view of the white one. The back looks real ugly

Yeah I agree....I never preorder anything either...I change my mind or someone gets the phone faster and I always have to cancel and get it from the first retailer.

It's hard to be sure without seeing yours live, but while I'm not about to go sticking business cards into my cellphone I would say mine has a similar gap and has had it from the very beginning. I never once thought it was a defect, because - as I mentioned - it's perfectly normal for a cellphone to have space between the keys as well as the keys and the body.

As for the play, I think I've noticed the same thing. The top left corner of the keypad (softkey / home / calendar / d-pad) compresses slightly if you apply light pressure on it, without actually activating the keys. Other parts of the keypad do not do this. This has been reported by a couple of other Finnish E71 users, too.

I'm looking forward to hearing what WOM has to say about this. I'm inclined to think the "gap" is by design but the play is not (at least it's not supposed to be, since the rest of the keypad does not give the same way).

If your E71 has not been taken away yet, can you check the light leakage as per my instructions in my previous post to confirm the light is not actually leaking from the display?

OK this does NOT look good for the E71! I Need to have seperate numbers and a full call log that shows the individual call times per number (even if more than 1 is for 1 contact); else whats the point right?! SE phones used to have this issue until the K790a debuted - without having to resort the the "call 0 first" trick.

Does Advanced Call Manager (comes pre-installed I think or comes on MSD card for install) resolve these issues??!
