*OFFICIAL THREAD: Nokia E71

In the U.S. I'm sure the E61/E61 outsold the E90, but no so in Europe. I've seen stats somewhere that show the E90 is the 2nd best selling E-series device (behind only E51) in Europe. Nokia in general considers the E90 to be selling well. Just not in the U.S. obviously.

I love the look and feel of the E71. But to me after being used to the large screen and keypad on the E90 a 2,4 inch screen is just too damn small. You gotta remember too yes the E71 has qwerty but the the keys look tiny! Someone who has the unit (boygenius I think) has already said the keypad could be a problem for some people.

1st impresssions of this phone are pretty positve...the size is really impressive. I was worried about the size of the keypad, but it's actually not too bad to use. Some of the settings and customizations are interesting...will elaborate as I find out more.

Couple of pictures I took of the E71 in comparison to an N73 and a Zune

Darn it!

It's like Deja-Vu all over again!!!

I dumped the idea of getting an HP910C just because of it's very poor battery life and now this?

Please tell me this is not common behavior on all E71's

There must be some sort of rouge software causing the drain... RIGHT? :befuddled

Hey everyone, been a long time HOFO reader, but post very little, but this I've got say:

I LOVE this phone!!!

I use to have an E90, use it for about a year, then last month I lost it (don't ask)... very very sad, it was a great phone too. Then I decided to try the N95, good phone, but the battery and no keyboard didn't do it for me. Sold it after 3 weeks.

Got my E71 yesterday and so far its one of the best phone I used! I'm putting this one up there with the E90. I was debating on either getting another E90 or the E71. Both are great and very hard to choose. Decide to try the E71 and OMG it's awsome.

Anyways, just my though, going to play with it a little more over the weekend.

Cheers
Chilli

Hi all, I have another stupid question: How do I use my e71 as a dial up modem for internet. Like old school 56k modem.
Everytime I try to use it as a modem in PC Suite, it seems to try to use the packet network data. When I put a real phone number in the dial up internet settings, i get a "connection error" on the phone...

Any thoughts or pointers to references would be helpful.

Thanks!

I dont anyone said the iphone 2 is amazing, I think more so what is amazing is the price point at which is was announced. I have to admit, there was nothing in actual announcement that caught my attention EXCEPT the price. When I head that is said "wow" to myself.

Sure you can get a blackjack for less. But the blackjack does not have the name recognition of the iphone. Given that the iphone WAS a $500 device a year ago, and is now "new and improved" for $200, the average person is going to take notice. I saw it all over the news last night and this morning. When is the last time you saw a news report about the BJ being released? The point is a very high profile device that most people know and at least recognize the brand name is now a $200 device. It is PERCEIVED as a premium product. So why is the average person going to walk into a store and buy a relatively unknown S60 device for $500 over the iphone for $200? I dont give apple points for innovation, but they get an A+ in my book for marketing expertise.

Thanks it was great... But how long did it took you to type this whole Review.. just curious... I Think i still wanne go for E71 and one more question. How the silent ring works when you flip the device..

It works fine and unlike the Curve, you dont have to have a data plan for it work. BB's cant send MMS unless they have a data plan. And you can also have the $15 data plan with the E71. :2thumbs:

anyone try imap.mail.yahoo.com for incoming??
just a suggestion
worked on my windows mobile phone
outgoing was: smtp.mobile.mail.yahoo.com
outgoing requires authentication is checked

Definately will. The really ODD thing is my employer is a service provider and I TS the BBs at lvl 1 - YET they won't get us on the BES for it!?? Strange no?!

It works fine with my contacts (except that if I had an apt. # field, it appends it to the street number for some reason). I haven't really used it for navigation much, but I would test it today a little more. I've noticed a few times when selecting an address it could hang-up for a few seconds but then works fine (haven't seen that on the N95 though).
