*OFFICIAL THREAD: Nokia E71

Yes, NAM = North American Model

You need the E71-2 model (NAM) if you are on ATT

The E71-1 is for Europe/Asia

The E71-3 is for Australia (which I think works on ATT)

Cheers!

lmao, I knew Nokia would do this, which is why I've refrained from getting too excited over the E71.

So, what's the over/under on when Nokia releases a NAM version, three months?

I think only those two models will show on Rim's North america's web site, more Nokia e series models will show when you visit Rim's European's web site.

I bought a couple phones from overseas electronics last friday for a friend and I asked about the e71. He was pretty confident he would have it in next friday. Who knows, I will be calling there though.

Sweet, never really thought about this until i tried it but:
- a long key press of # switches to silent mode
- long key press of * turns on/off bluetooth

Been a while since i've been on a nokia again, but i have a E71-1 purchased in Singapore. Downunder at the moment.

Any other functions i can sort out that isn't listed in the manual? Long key presses of the soft keys activate voice assistant/reader. There isn't any way to change these are they? Built into the firmware?

I had a feeling the wait would be a lot longer. We will definitely know more Monday. I was really hoping they would have wanted to brush up their North American image and release both at the same time. Oh, well, same ol' Nokia.

I think this is the key phrase. let's think about it for a sec. The (comparatively) thin, tiny $500 E71's camera is about the same as most other smartphones, but it's not as good as a $700 phone that has a 5 megapixel sensor and (comparatively) huge Carl Zeiss optics, and it's not as good as a huge brick of a $1000 phone that has a lot more room for a (comparatively) big lens.

What's wrong with those two particular comparisons?

very nice, in-depth review trent, i enjoyed reading it.

quick question, if i recall correctly, you were the first to discover a "backdoor" to access mobile online banking from Bank of America on your red e90. is this necessary on the e71 too, or can you access online banking straight up thru the default nokia browser thru BoA's main page?

I still don't know how to get the "cashback" thing. Is it because I'm from Canada? When I go to live.com, I cannot see any promotion about that. Can anyone tell me steep by step how to process? As soon as this thing work, I will also join the banwagon and buy one from Rose on eBay. Thanks.

So far there's the E71-1 and the E71-2. Not sure if the E71-3 is out.

E71-1: Quad-Band GSM 850/900/1800/1900 with HSDPA 2100 (Europe use)
E71-2: Quad-Band GSM 850/900/1800/1900 with U.S. 3G WCDMA 850/1900 (U.S.)

I just got out of therapy from when I had to retire my slide rule...... and now this???!!!

My guess is, there will be a better interface or better voice recognition systems as the UI in the future.

They dont't have it in stock. What it means is.. they are done processing the order & sent the info to a Vendor warehouse to ship. It will be shipped as soon as the Vendor receives the stock. Which could be 3 months
