*OFFICIAL THREAD: Nokia E71

You need a vacation away from wires and gadgets, in the jungles, forget the time and day and prolly when you return after 6 months , the E71 would be ANNOUNCED .
If you do find such a vacation place , let me know. Maybe I might give it a thought.
There has been too much of precious time wastage by checking diff. forums every now and then for the last few months.

I used roadsync on my old 9300 and it worked flawlessly. I was more than pleased, although I wasn't using it with some corporate server, just personal. I posted to mention that the price has dropped by 50% over the past couple years and I believe you can still trial it for 30 days. Can't beat a 30 day trial.

Hi Prom1

Congrats on the phone and I'm sure you'll enjoy it not trying to be clever but in the Installations folder have you gone to the App Manager then settings and changed it to Software Installation ALL and Online Certificate check to OFF. As that the first thing you need to do to get apps to install easily some themes are just old and the Certificates were only valid for a Year so just change the phones date back 1-2 years and it should then install OK.

You really shouldn't need to have to hack your phone just to install most apps and themes as i have never hacked any of my phones and had no trouble installing the apps or themes i want. There are some apps that may require it or self signing but i never used any or had that problem not once.

Exactly my views too........... Won't buy a BB coz the features are a bit retarded when one has been using a s60, but then the form factor like of a curve pulls you towards it.
Same question looms over me, why BB could not have GPS,WiFi bundled in 1 set rather than having a 8310 and 8320.
Another reason being, I do not want to be locked on to BB data plan for the next year or so till I have my device.I require the psychological freedom that I will be able to change from BB connectivity to MfE or maybe Seven ( not beta...too many issues) as and when desired.

Like I have said earlier too, I really wonder whether E61I successor is still being considered or scrapped for the time being, simply because there is not even a single real photo on the web. Atleast some tester could have posted it anonymously or leaked the full features.

As for the E51 qwerty, the screen would be tiny anyways, no?.

What I desire is a wide screen with full qwerty (and weighing less than 125 gms :-)) and the potential E71 fits my bill ( provided it has BBC capability, else BB 9000 here I come with an additional battery in my pocket).

So ...for the time being I am still on my backup E50

It's not gonna happen. The E71 is nice, but it's no flagship...it doesn't bring anything new to the table. It's a business phone...it suppose to get things done, not be flashy and full of media functions to show off. Americans are too sold on status and hype. The Blackberry is the business standard here and the iPhone is the trendy standard. The US mobile industry isn't setup to help Nokia at all with the provider driven market. When so-called celebrities start showing off a Nokia E71 like they do with their BB's and iPhones, then you'll know Nokia has made some kind of progress. As many people on this forum have said over and over, Nokia doesn't push their products well enough in the US. Until they really start bombarding the US with promotions(provider oriented) for the E71, it will be just another sleeper phone that is pushed aside for the Bold, iPhone2, BlackJack3, some stupid named LG, another stupid named HTC, etc.

There's going to be so much hoopla over Android when units with it start to ship I would think Nokia would want to be well out in front of this with the E71. Throw in the 3G iPhone and there could be a consumer feeding frenzy. Nobody hypes a product like Apple, and Google will push Android for all it's worth, so wether or not they're smart purchases won't matter to a lot of consumers. Best for Nokia to get as big a jump on those two as humanly possible.

Well Mobile Review said 4-5 weeks to get to all retailers....so thus wide availability end of July, but well be shipping June 16th.....at least that's how I understood the article.

It should be theoretically possible to create such an app (esp. on a hacked phone), but no one has really investigated it.

There are apps that can turn it on at half-brightness but that isn't very useful as a light source.
